Hi all: I have lugged one of these things around on off-road trips since 2006 when I bought it new. I did learn how to use one in a Vic Widman course but mine hasn't been out of the bag.

Until earlier this week.

I wanted to reverse my camper in a different location at home. Not a suitable location for reversing with Paj. The winch can do it, I thought! So out of the bag, read the instruction page, set up the tree protector, run out the cable, insert the cable.....

Trouble. Despite following the instructions to the letter, I could not get the internal jaws to align, nor could I get the Tee bar to lock on. This is for Right Hand operation.

I'm hoping someone can write up some suggestions that can help me? I'm glad I'm not out in the bush right now.

Thanks, RayJen

Ray,

The T bar needs a fair bit of force to engage.
I usually turn it on it's end and use the heel of my boot to engage it.

Cheers Kev

I am not sure if this will solve the problem, but the t-bar needs to be pushed back, then up, to allow the cable to be inserted. Many try and push it UP first, but that won't work.

If you think this may be the problem and I have not explained it properly, MM me and I will see if I can do better.

When you say "I could not get the internal jaws to align, nor could I get the Tee bar to lock on" do you mean you could not get the T bar to lock into position after moving it forward and up like the instructions say?

I initially had that problem with mine even though I had another "expert" assisting me. The problem was I was pushing the T forward and up in an arc instead of sliding it fully forward in a similar fashion to a rifle bolt before pushing it up.

The moment you do that and the T locks, you will notice the jaws have opened and the cable will pass through easily.

The easiest way to do it initially until you get used to it is to stand the winch up on its front end in a vertical position on the ground. Stand over it and push the T directly at the ground until it won't go any further then, without letting the spring inside pull it back, pivot it up to lock it.
