--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a year 2000 Turbo Diesel Landcruiser HDL100. Ten months and 28000 klms ago, Toyota replaced my injector pump. The truck has done 300K so this would be expected.
The pump appears to have failed again. Every mechanic I talk to can't believe that it has failed again. The era message (P1220/14 {d1-87}) states it may be something to do with the timing control valve or pump. The car has always been serviced. Each mechanic that has looked at it, has checked filters and fuel and found both to be perfect. The motor sounds as though it is being starved of fuel or that the timing is way out. There is an intermittent rattling noise with a loss of power. At first this just happens occasionally. The car is actually driveable, but the loud revving or rattling has people in the street turning to look. Has anybody come across this before? Can you help?
One other thing about this problem, is that about a month ago I tried to drive the vehicle, the rattling started, and I could not go more than 20kph for about 300 metres. There was no power. Then suddenly the rattle stopped and the car ran perfectly again. I took the car into the local Toyota place since the engine light was on. They checked it on the computer, tightened a few fittings and gave it back to me. The car then went perfectly for the next 2000 Klms. Being an intermittent problem makes it hard to diagnose I think.
I am also getting mixed messages about the warranty on the pump. Some dealers say 12 months and 20k while others say 12 months and unlimited klms.
The car is in with a very capable Toyota dealer now, but I am just trying to get some ideas to assist and speed up the process.
I've changed the post as requested.
Thanks to all those who have given me advice to date. Much appreciated.
Cheers

Hi John
On a further note to other posts on your previous enquiry. I can only suggest things as I am not a mechanic.
I did note last time down at toyota a pamphlet from toyota stating you should not use any fuel that has more than a 5% mixture in it. That means don't use any bio diesel.
Another thing you might want to check out is this website when looking at an injector rattle.

It works.
