takin my time
Hi all. Has anyone had any experience with 2 electrical issues on a 100 series std. 1) One issue is the immobiliser module on the injection pump blows fuses. Mechanic suggests may be an immobiliser circuit board issue. Replacement immobiliser is approx $800 from Toyota. Anyone have this happen on their vehicle? Wondering what after market replacement part or alternative immobiliser options are available that are also reliable enough for remote travel.
2) The mechanic has temporarily bypassed the immobiliser by jumping the positive wire from the immobiliser directly to the fuel cut solenoid so the vehicle will start. Now my glow plug dash light stays on when driving. Goes off initially after starting but then comes back on after approx 15 sec and stays on - can hear glow plug relay going on/off intermittently when vehicle is idling. Not sure if glow light on related to the by-pass wire or coincidence of another problem developing. If preheating timer, a $400 Toyota part - any experience with replacing with manual (ie button/switch) option?
Appreciate any thoughts/ideas.
Thanks

A couple of fellas on the lcool site have had the same issue. They disconnected the immobiliser permanently.

Hi Takinmytime The glow plug relays will probably keep activating till the engine warmsup, asthe module has a coolant sensor. Id warm up the motor & then see if they have gone off. Cheers Daryl

Thanks for the info Tour Boy. Have done a search of LCOOL to try and find the posts you have mentioned - used 'immobiliser' as search term but couldn't find relevant responses. Have undertaken registration with LCOOL - maybe that will help me find the posts. Do you have any keyword suggestions so I can track down the posts you mentioned? Thanks again

I had a keyless entry system fitted to my 105. I had to explictly tell them not to connect hte immobilser component - i did not want two.
You could bypass the factory system by fitting keyless entry and get the added bonus of keyless entry without voiding the insurance requirement of having an immobiliser fitted.

Thanks pt_nomad for the info - That sounds like a good option I'll discuss with an autoelectrician, particularly with respect to satisfying insurance requirements.
