Thought that those rules pertaining to dogs had been in place for some time.

People like fines, don't they? Bloody bureaucracy...lol

Thanks for the link anyway. Hoping to spend some time in Tassie next year.

Cheers

Hi Don & Kathie , we went to Tasmania earlier this year for 6 weeks fron 2nd feb , and we had to have all that proof & documentation then that our Macca ( who is our dog but refuses to believe that) had been treated for hydatis for 2 weeks min. before allowing him into Tassie , they just look at the documentation from the vet ........ I think that was the main one they are concerned with ........ steve

I'm impressed with the way that Tasmania tries to keep itself free of imported pests either flora or fauna. You drive off the Spirit of Tasmania and are subjected to a full quarantine inspection. Yes, it's slow and laborious and adds another hour or so to your journey but it's a necessity. Each time I've come off the ferry they've targeted my fridge and storage containers. I make very sure that I am carrying no vegetables or fruit.

Now this seems to have no relevance to the dog. The last two times I was there the Govt was very keen for anyone to report fox sightings. Apparently, someone idiot has supposedly managed to introduce a fox to the island. This has not necessarily been confirmed but if so it could have a huge impact on Tassie wildlife.

So to Tasmania, your dog and the diseases it might carry are vitally important. Don't be disappointed if you're told not to bring it.

it is more than likely the fox or foxes were stowaways on one of the passenger or freight ships and jumped ship once docked,
