If you're using FF, DON'T let it update to 3.55. Some major bugs in that release that are causing all sorts of weird rendering issues.

thanks. I'm still on 3.53 running on my old win2k clunker.
Shall remember whenever the update nagger pops up again near the right hand bottom corner.
So far, I haven't even felt the urge to upgrade, meaning I'm happy with this version except for the longish times it takes to fire up this fox. This issue probably won't go away with any future versions as I've the feeling it got rather worse with every upgrade :(
best regards, batterymeister (BNE VAlley)

I've been running FireFox 3.55 for over a week now, since I upgraded to Windows 7 and haven't noticed any problems that can be attributed to FireFox.

MrB.
Can you tell me what problems I am using 3.5.5 and have been for several days and cannot see any problems. Are you referring to problems with ExplorOz or other sites in general?

No it's not only this site.
Not too certain what's causing it.
What happens is when you access a page it will load really slowly and the scroll bar will switch to the left hand side of the page. At work it was constantly causing Webmarshall to ask for authentication. Spent the best part of the morning chasing it and eventually I uninstalled 3.5.5 and went back to 3.5.0 and all is now good. Happened on both my work PC and this Laptop I'm using now, both XP SP3.
Also, pages that were open in tabs before the update will open OK. Any new pages from the same site were screwed.
Strangest browser behavior I've ever seen..
This article describes it pretty
well.

And this one..

G'day Mr Bitchi,
Thanks for the heads-up. I'm using 3.5.5 on 3 machines with XP SP3 and on 2 running Ubuntu 9.10 and can't say I've had any problems with wandering scroll bars or other display flakiness.
However, I have noticed one of my usual sites (www.theregister.co.uk) now seems to take forever to load (if ever) as described in one of the Mozilla Support articles you posted. I'd put it down to the fact that I mainly read El Reg on an EEE PC that's not exactly endowed with grunt.
Guess I'll stay tuned and see what eventuates.
Cheers,
Chris

I am running firefox 3.55 with no problems on my iMac. Don't think there is a problems with Firefox.
There is a current problems with the latest update to Windows 7 that has caused a 'black screen of death'. It also affects the previous versions of windows.
"Millions of Microsoft's new Windows 7 users face a "black screen of death" when starting up the latest operating system. The software giant is investigating reports that a security update released last Tuesday is causing the error. Computer firm Prevx claims the error could also wreak havoc on Windows 7's predecessor, Vista, as
well as XP, NT and Windows 2000."

I am sure Microsoft will fix it soon.

And where do they get the 'Millions of users' from. We've been running Win7 here at work on thousands of computers for a few months now (and yes I can back up the total number) and haven't noticed it yet. And yes, the updates are up to date...

Google Chrome here..... tried FF, it was IMHO, hopeless. Might have been some settings that I used or something, but, to me, a browser should just "work". With FF, every second tab/page/window I tried to open would not connect. It tried lots of things, but in the end discarded it. Chrome works way better for me, faster, opens pages (unless they don't exist) and is simple to navigate.
Cheers
Brian

I had lots of problems with FF 3.55 and Xp. Eventually got rid of Avg and went to Avast foe antivirus and problems all gone. Maybe that's why some are trouble free, not using Avg.

Hi Geoff,
I use XP on all my machines, plus AVG (coz it's free!) and I've recently been having a sort of connectivity problem with FF; ie, nothing happens untll one re-tries, then it works. All machines exhibit the same problem. It may still be a problem with my ISP, tho, as I'm also having occasional email connectivity problems and I've got to do a bit more sleuth work. Maybe AVG is causing both problems.
I certainly don't get the above issues with LH sliders, etc. Everything works on FF, it just doesn't do it first time. No probs with IE or Chrome. I find Chrome fast, but it seems to take up lots of resources, but that's only on one slow machine with limited memory.
cheers
Gerry

Geoff,
thanks, you've pointed me in the right direction. Might give a different virus scanner a go.
Pity, I've always liked AVG (mainly coz it's free!)
