Hello, we have just received a new caravan with reading lights above the beds for the kids. They are the little spotlight sorts as seen in most caravans. But they get so hot I think the kids will burn themselves on them- my husband already has! I have asked at caravan and light shops and no help so far. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, Leah

Leah,
you can buy LED ones that are cool, try Derek Bester at ABR sidewinder he may be able to help or you can buy them on ebay.
Have a good one

Hi Leah,
are they 240Volt or are they 12Volt? If 12V, get LED lamps as mentioned above; if 240V, remove one of the lamps and take to any electrical wholesaler and ask for a replacement type in lower wattage that doesn't have a reflector sheild as part of the lamp. The reflector type get much hotter than or normal standard lamps. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. I am not sure what voltage- I will get my husband to check. So far the lights shops have been no help.

If they are that hot they are probably Halogens which get very hot.
Touching with fingers is bad as it makes them get a hot spot nd they can actually go bang.
We had one do that over the sink Spectacular.
They can be replaced depending on the fitting they have.
Take one out and take it to a lighting
shop and see what can be done..
Look on Ebay for really cheap LEDS with the same fitting as yours.

It sounds like the light fitting uses Dichroic lamps, it doesn't matter which voltage they are its the watts which equates to heat. 50watt 12 volt or 50watt 240V is still 50watts and bloody hot.
You acn get very low watt LED versions under 10watts to replace the dichroic lamps but not all LED lamps are a direct replacement. You will have to compare lamp size with lamp size. Soem of the fiitings don't accept the LED lamps

I expect they will be 12 volt and have a MR16 fiting. However the diameter is an issue. I got LEDs that were a bit oversize. I just taped them into position and they are great. Use next to nothing in electricity and are just as
bright.
I now want to find a LED to replace the tow fluros, as while they are efficient, LEDs would be better

www.jaycar.com.au sells MR16 lights that are direct replacement for halogen bulbs.
jaycar has many shops around Australia.
