Hello, we are leaving
Adelaide next week for a 1-2 year trip around Australia. Someone mentioned that we should join a caravan group for discounts off parks. We have dogs and have been told the Big 4 is not ideal. Any other groups we should join that might help reduce the costs for us (and the 4 kids, 2 dogs!! - I think that is all!!). I would like to save money where possible. Thanks again, Leah

Leah,
grab hold of a book called "Holidaying with Dogs"; also go to your auto club and grab the latest "Tourist
park Guide" as
well as the "Accomadation Guide". You will find them a very worthwile investment.

Most of the Van
Park groups eg Big4, Family parks, Oz Parks, Top Tourist etc offer discounts to people who join their "Club" it is usually 10% up to a maximum usually about $25 for any one stay. It can cost up to $30 to join.
So you need to decide which parks you will seek out and selectively join them.
We have found Family parks are excellent value, Oz parks are fairly new on the scene but we have had some good experiences with them too, Top Tourist is also reliable.
However you will find good and bad in all the groups where you will wonder how they ever manage to get 3, 4 or 5 stars in their grading system!

Definitely worth it if you stay in that chains parks. Over the time period you're talking, being a member to all of them would probably work out, except the dog thing... no good to you if they don't allow dogs!
On our 'big trip' we joined Big4 (and got our
membership value easily) but we stayed at a Top Tourist and I declined the intitation to join (the wife said we should... I reckoned we wouldn't stay in any more).
Well, the next couple of
places we stayed were Top Tourist! I got a bit of an earfull over that one!
Cheers, Nige

You can join the CMCA (Campervan & Motorhome Club of Australia) as an associate member.
Great organisation with useful member benefits.

The 3 Chains that accept dogs are Oz Parks, Top Tourist Parks & Family Parks.
Many of their parks are happy to accept you 4 footed family members.
Not all parks in those chains accept them. but quite a few do and in one case all but one of their parks are pet friendly.
Google their websites for more info.

I would suggest doing a FREE registration to this site which gives up to date info on some 2500 parks australia wide.
Unlike the "Van Parks Guides" which are out of date by the time they are printed, this info is updatable by members and the parks themselves.
I would recommend it to anyone travelling.
The registration page is here.
Cheers
Neil.
