I'm currently planning the next leg of our trip "Waterfall hoping" starting 1st Jan (Thats if I don't play up) Yeppoon-Atherton.
Just have a few Questions.

Paluma
Big Crystal Creek Camp ground. Planning on unhooking and spending couple of days there. I know there is a track that follows the old train line that goes through a tunnel can't remember its name.

Tully Gorge
Alcock state Forrest camp area. Un hooking the van as above.

Is the road in for both caravan friendly?
Is there better places to stay? Can bush camp but van needs to be secure for the day trips.

Cheers
Sharon

The Paluma range road goes through a small tunnel or two I think - is that the one?. Big Crystal ck is at the bottom - looked nice when we pass through in August. The road up the range is quite steep and narrow in spots - not great for large vans. But you can get to the campground no worries from memory.

There are a couple of other campgrounds/van parks nearby. Rollingstone van park isn't too far and is right on the water. Not cheap but very nice.

Ok, as per next post - I am mistaken on the tunnels. I think I must've been remembering the bridge.

There no tunnels on the Puluma range road. It is bitumen but steep and narrow.

There are old train tunnels on the Hervey Range road but I think the tea rooms have exclusive access (have to go on their tour)

Tea Rooms

Puluma Range is a nice area with Crystal Creek bridge etc.

Puluma and Hervey Range are different roads 80km apart.

Thanks Allen. That's the tunnels I was thinking of. Didn't realise they were on the Hervey Range. Only travelled down the Hervey Range Road last July. Might include that on way back down south later in the year. Thanks for the great info.

We stayed at Balgal Beach (Camps 4 p35,#33) and toured the paluma area, 24hr stay allowed if longer needed move down to Bushy Parker Park (camps 4 p35,#32).Just before the camp area at Big Crystal creek there is quite a large spillway but shouldn't pose any problems.

Tully we stayed at Hull Head rec area for 3 nights (camps 4, p34 #20,$12.60pn) then moved up to tully Gorge for another 3 nights.

We left the van in the above areas with no problems.

Road to Paluma from Bruce Highway certainly not great for caravans as the road is narrow ,steep and tight curves. I would just day trip up to Pauma- lots of nice walks.
You can come in from the other side and its ok for caravans.

Rollingstone is great. You can get beachfront enuite sites if you have a van. Camp spots are lovely too for anyone else interested.

The weather may get the best of you though...
