Hello people,

Just have a question about the amount of power sapping 32 inch tyres inflict on a stock hj60. The car is in good shape and has 31" tyres and am happy with the performance. I did some research and noticed that the original 7.50x16 tyres that are made, are of similar diameter to 32" tyres, so I imagine it wont be too bad. I have had experience with 33" tyres on a hj47 and that truck struggled a bit.
Anyone out there who has had experience whith that tyre/car combo please leave your thoughts.

Thanks.

FWIW used to run 33 x 10.5" BFG A/T's on a HJ60 a few years back. Only place I really noticed the difference was on long hwy hills, you'd be grabbing a lower cog sooner than before. Also a bit less stable on high speed corners, but you'd expect that with a higher sidewall. But on the other hand they felt better on the flat, and went better off-road too with the extra height under the diffs. Our current GQ was similiar - when purchased it had 31 x 10.5" A/T's fitted to 15 x 7" Sunnies (DX so originally should have had splits). Flicked them in favour of 235/85R16 cheese cutters - best 'mod' I've done so far I reckon - the car definately feels better being set back to stock so to speak.

Only other thing is if you are travelling make sure you get a size & brand that is fairly common. Only reason I wouldn't go with a 33" x 10.5 again is they are a bugger to find in stock anywhere.

I hear you on that last comment. I went to get some quotes for the 32s and had the same thing (no stock). I am in Cairns after all. But you would expect there to be Bridgestones in stock at most times I guess. I think that 31s are definately more popular than 32s and above however.

Thanks for the reply :)

I am running 235/75 x 16 LT on my HZJ105 at present.
They are the same rolling diameter as a 7.50 x 16, but just a little bit wider. Still have them mounted on the OE split rim, haven't noticed any reduction in power, not that the mighty 1HZzzz has a lot to start with...

I got them from the old mate in the new and secondhand tyre joint on Scott St if you are interested, Westlake is the brand. They are 10 ply rated, so a good bush tyre.

Whoops, finger problem.
Amend the tyre size to 235/85 R16...

Oh, for an edit function...
