I am taking some Canadian visitors onto the Cooloola section of Noosa north and traveling through to
Rainbow Beach to give them a look at this beautiful area.
Something in the back of my mind tells me that since I was last there a few years ago, that I now need a pass to travel in that area. Is my suspicion correct or is it still free to travel? If I do, where do I get the pass?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi Pat, NO you do not need any passes up there unless you intend on
camping in which will require a permit from the
ranger station, located near the barge, its cost about $7.50 per person, per night, plus a vehicle permit, otherwise there are no costs for day travellers apart from the barge itself which is $6 each way, great spot up there we are up there nearly every weekend, enjoy it.

Thanks Jonnymac for your quick reply. I knew that if I asked a question on Exploroz then I would get the info that I was after, again thank you.

Another question of you. Which on
the beach entries is the best to use at the moment?

Pat,
lately 1st track has been very soft with a few getting stuck, not sure on 2nd and 3rd tracks but generally if it has not rained for a while 3rd track is the easiest but take your time and check them out, its all part of the fun, enjoy it

Thanks Johnnymac. The third track has always been the best over the years. People don't chew it up with their tyres as much as the others.

we were up there just 2 weeks ago and like said already you don't need a permit to drive on
the beach. the qld 4wd association is still trying to get the permits to incorporate other beaches aswell (just to give you an idea......say also include bribie and fraser and moreton all in the one permit for example) as a yearly permit being sugested. nobody is happy about the price that they want to charge for a day visit permit, so this is part of the reason for no permit required yet.
3rd beach entry was very easy when we were there 2 weeks ago, a friend used the 1st entry last weekend and there were 4 vehicles bogged in it, my guess is all with high tyre pressures. we tow our caravan out through 2nd entry as it is also usually quite an easy run out to
the beach.
the fires have certainly destroyed some of the southern bushland, but for the most it was still alot of bush that you see from
the beach untouched. friends who left Inskip a day before us travelled from
Rainbow all the way south along
the beach at dead lowtide, but as the tides didn't suit when we were leaving we had to use the Freshwater track instead.

Thanks for the info Rumpig. I had not thought about the recent bush fires in that area. We will still go and enjoy the
views.
