That would depend on what the problem is, Vehicle make and availability of parts.

More info on the actual vehicle would make it easier to answer ;)

Cheers Kev

Answering what you have said is a bit like doing brain surgery over the phone and with a blindfold on if you get what we mean.

Might be your left rear tyre as well, out of round, de laminating. Swap to the front see if it makes any differance.

cheers

1 Check your wheel nuts.

2 Lift the rear axle of the ground and put the gearbox in neutral.
Turn wheel by hand slowly and listen.

It could also be the brakes.

Take it carefully to a mechanic nearby or get someone with a bit of mechanical knowledge.
Its foolish to try and diagnose this sort of problem over the internet if you dont have the mechanical knowledge to diagnose it yourself.
Potentially (and worst case) its a catastrophic accident about to happen, next best is major further (expensive) damage from procastinating over what to do.

If a driver cant jack up their vehicle safely, how are they going to get on changing a tyre?

It should be part of the driving test in my opinion, disabled drivers excluded.

And what if the wheel falls off driving it "carefully" to the mechanic because the wheel nuts were loose?

yep I agree with you entirely.
though its not the jacking up thats dangerous, its the diagnosing. And whats the point?
Someone with no mechanical knowledge diagnosing and then requesting a quote on that basis is going to be meaningless.

if you can turn the wheel ,a bad bearing is fairly obvious by the groaning noise it makes as it comes to a stop.

It is strange the noise only started after removing a trailer. You haven't left a chain or wiring hanging somehow have you.

Did you take the trailer to the tip? Is there some refuse caught up underneath?

Silly thoughts I know but they have to be thought of, sometimes it is the simple things....

Cheers

LOL The mudlflap bent up and rubbing on the tyre has fooled a few times.
Another time , a mechanic and I spent 20 mins driving up and down the street trying to identify a scraping noise each time I applied the brakes.
It turned out it was my new improved longer mudflaps swing forward and rubbing on the tyre.
Red faces all round.
