Howdy All

Trying to work out the GPS the new boat! Its a Northstar Explorer 538i Chartplotter which is worth $500 or so and has one of those seamap cards in it which was another $300.

There is very little detail on the unit compared to what we thought because the blokes at barramundi marine were saying how good they were and the amount of details you can see on there. Where we go fishing the area hasnt been surveyed so i can understand that but out in the gulf where it has been surveyed all the main rivers arnt even on there no matter how much you zoom in or out.

Is this the GPS or the cards fault doing this or is it just the area??

If anyone can steer me in the right direction that would be great

Cheers

Hi Tukka

What area does it say on the C Map Card? and Dates?

e.g.mine says "NT+ Ballina to Darwin - 9 Nov 2006"

It may be an old card.

Are they seamap charts or C Map charts?

I should think even with a normal GPS and its standard software that the rivers should be coming up, along with islands and stuff even. And then with the card it should be listing depths, creeks, channels, rivers, islands and more.

I have C Map Software On Board charts for the whole world on my laptop and it lists every detail possible, in every patch of ocean/gulf/sea in the world. Can also be plugged straight into Autopilot/used as chart plotter etc, but this is serious software for shipping purposes not fishing.

Does the GPS maybe need updating via Computer or something, or is there a Code or Key number you need to register or punch in maybe? Best bet is to ring the buggers who sold you it and ask what the go is i think.

Sorry mate yeh C Map it is.

Mate of mine paid 2k for a Humminbird and same sort of card and his is great, shows you all the small creeks and stuff

Bloke from Barramundi marine said this would do that. Its the right card for the kimberleys but just doesnt seem right

They have a base map built in and then you have to tell it to look for the map on the card.

If all else fails read the instructions.
