Hi All
I was speaking to Damian today about another new Trek that I am writing up. During the conversation he stated that not many people submit new Trek Files for publishing. I personally find the Trek notes very handy and helpful for planning trips, as well as what I cam expect to see and do along the way.

As we all use this best site in Australia, it is the members that make this site even better. I have nothing personally to gain out of this post, but ask readers, when they are planning that next trip away, contact the very friendly staff here at EO and think about adding another new Trek to their ever expanding Trek File Data Base.

There is no time like now, so please think about planning and writing that next Trek files so we can all benefit from your ventures.

Cheers

Stephen

Hi Jeff
A lot of people may not be aware now, that EO are constantly upgrading things, and now if you check out a Trek, any relates blogs for that area are now linked to that Trek, with the two complimenting each other. In that way, it gives all reader a real good run down of that area.

Cheers

Hi Stephen,

It gets even better - from the page:

http://www.exploroz.com/Customers/82.875/5/2008/Treks__How_to_Submit_a_Trek_Note.aspx

"Creating a Trek Note
Trek notes should only be created and submitted to ExplorOz by experienced travellers or by people with detailed knowledge of the area. Unfortunately, we cannot provide any training on the subject and we do not accept all trek notes submitted to us. If you are a freelance travel writer and have carefully followed our guidelines, there is a good chance that your trek note will be published on ExplorOz and if that’s the case - we'll remunerate your efforts".

I got my inaugural membership for my Nuytsland NR effort. Not a huge reward but appreciated nonetheless.

And just the ticket to encourage new treknoties.

Cheers.

Hi John,
If people are unsure, all they have to do is give their resident "Arm Chair Traveller" Damian a call. He is very helpful and will give anyone interested some very useful help. Damian also mentioned that he was speaking to David, and they were thinking of reviewing the remuneration package.

Australia is a very large place, with members and viewers in every possible location. Their contribution will aid and encourage others to get out and see the best country in the world and more people to use their very helpful Trek Notes.

Also your Trek note was well done.

Cheers

Stephen

Thanks Stephen. I recently put up Gregory NP as a user trek and am thinking of doing some more on it as an ExplorOz trek.

Your efforts are also appreciated - I can't wait to follow your Rason Lake route, probably in 2011 - it looks a great option which I would probably not have considered had you not contributed it.

Cheers.

Hi John
Thanks for that. For me, the deserts of WA are the best in Australia, that is why we keep heading back. When you get out near Lake Rason, you will have a ball.. Keep up your great work with your Trek submissions.

Hi Stephen,

I have info, plot files and photos of the Gary Hwy and the Gary Junction road, but do not have the ability to be able to put it into words like yours. without plagiarizing someone else's work.

I would like to be able but, am just not that good. :-(

but have added many a photo to a lot of Trek's.

Cheers

Hi Richard
As they say, Rome was not built in a day. We all have to start somewhere and what ever you write, we will all benefit from your vast knowledge of travelling the deserts of Australia. Please get in contact with Damian, he will be able to point you in the right direction and give you some very helpful pointers.

Don't put yourself down, what ever you write, it is better than no Trek File at all. We have all seen your great photos, and most times a photo is worth a thousand words.

You have put your foot in now, so we will all look forward to seeing your great new Trek report in the near future of the Garry Highway. Your work will be a great benefit to other future desert travellers.

Regards

Stephen

They use to have one of these, "ExplorOz Trek Note Proforma"

ExplorOz Trek Note Proforma

Start Point Place name
Finish Point Place name
Total KM Distance excluding sidetrips
Min. Days Minimum timeframe to drive the route, regardless of tourism enjoyment
Fuel Supplies Name locations and restrictions
Best time to visit State months
Permits Name of permit and contact organisation/number
Main Attractions Short statement
Supplies/Facilities Name of towns/communities – distinction of major or limited supply point
Difficulty Rating Use rating scale document to select appropriate number between 1 and 10.

Overview
Provide a 1 –2 sentence summary of the trek. This is also shown in the Trek Search summary and should give the reader a brief understanding of where it is located, what it is most noted for, and the level of difficulty.

Description
A more detailed description than the overview. Include approx. 3 images clearly showing the major features of the trek – including landmarks, historic features, driving terrain, camping setup, landscape etc. Forms the main body of the trek note before the specific odometer/gps readings and can be many paragraphs long including photos. Depending on the particular trek various paragraph headings (bookmarks) can be used to break up the information into logical parts eg.
Note – do not write anything subjective about terrain or difficulty or any facts or data that can easily become outdated. Keep the trek note generic so that it can be accurate with minimal update requirement.

History | Environment | Preparation | Detailed Trek Notes

History
If the area is particularly significant historically (either European or Aboriginal) you may include further detail here.

Preparation
Eg. permits, and water/fuel/food supply complications that may need special consideration for adapting standard vehicles (ie. long range fuel tank, enough food carrying capacity for minimum 5 days etc). Must point out the obvious – consider audience could be foreigners or newbie outback travellers. We will edit and provide links to relevant pages on the site.

Environment
This heading can be used to explain the general landform and terrain. Also raise any issues that need highlighting to the general novice traveller. Eg. CSR – use of well water.

Detailed Trek Notes
Enter short but useful odometer notes including gps references for important landmarks, difficult to find turn offs etc.

Distance from start Distance between points Description
Trip Meter (km)

Related Shop Items
These will be extracted from our database of shop items.

but I can't seem to find it anymore.. LOL.. I will try..

Yair, I agree with the others Richard - you're one of less than ten contributors who have given me the confidence to get out in the more remote areas.

I'd be more than happy to help edit your material if that would help; so go for it. and i'm on my 4th glass myself at the mo.

So sheers,
