Just a quick Question, have any members done the Horseshoe Rim 4WD Track. I am intending on taking some club members through the track so I just need an idea on how hard it is and how long it takes to complete the Track including the piece for advanced 4X4 track.

Cheers any feedback appreciated

Hey Blaze

Its a walk in the park for someone as experienced as yourself notwithstanding that soft roader of yours....LOL

I went up there on invite from the Whyalla 4x4 Club. As far as I recall it is about 3 hour journey including lunch time. This was a few years ago though and I think that some externsions have been made to the track. I also recall that a fella in a Hyundai had a bit of strife getting up an incline and had to towed up.

Cheers

Gday Blaze,
There are two properties and two sets of 4wd tracks.
http://www.thehorseshoe.com.au/

The "Horseshoe Rim" is the one that has a Wilderness Cabin. We hired the cabin for a few nights earlier this year. It rained the whole time, so we didn't drive the track - just walked it instead! The tracks around there have plenty of clay. I would be surprised if the "Horseshoe Rim" track would take any longer than 2 hours - there's a steep section leading up to the top of the hill which needs a bit of wheel placement - it would be good fun, but nothing too difficult.

The Horsehoe Top End is the property that has the bigger camping areas and a lot more 4wd track. I haven't been there.

Cheers

Blaze I have driven it a couple of times with the Whyalla Club, as long as they are proper 4WD's with hi-lo range they will be fine, if it is a 'soft-roader' depending on how soft it is, it may struggle.

The track is essentially in two parts divided by the public dirt road through the area. If you allow 4-5 hours to do both sections including lunch stop in the creek at the end of the first section. The climb to the top of Mt Stokes on the second section is probably the most challenging but is still fairly easy in a standard 4WD with hi-lo range and reasonable ground clearance.
