Evening all,

When I decelerate in my Nissan 4.8, it almost feels like there is some kind of brake like an exhaust brake that assists slowing the vehicle down. I've only ever owned 4.2's so I may just be dreaming it. Love the truck, really beautiful car to drive but just wondering if it's the same on all the 4.8's, or if there is something slightly out of whack...It's a 2004 model, just before the new shape, manual.

Cheers,

Chris.

Hi Chris

There is a de-acceleration control which shuts off fuel , they do feel a little savage sometimes but if helps engine braking downhill.

You could probably bypass the soleniod , but I never bothered.

Hey mate,

Well there you go, not crazy after all. It is a little savage, sometimes even a little clunky when in traffic accellerating and decelerating. Probably good that the fuel shuts off, likes it as it is.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Vicar.

True that. Great truck, just really curious as to why Nissan did it...

I love my Nissans and have owned tojos as well, but you are righ about some of the things they have done. But I stand by my mighty 4.8 wagon and 4.2 tdi ute, best trucks I have ever owned.

Nearly all petrol injection cars have fuel injector shutoff which is sensed by the ECU when it detects road speed with the VSS( vehicle Speed Sensor), revs are over 1500 ( usually) , and TPS ( Throttle Position Sensor) shows foot off the accelerator.

It resumes usually at 1500RPM as you slow down. You can save fuel by being aware of it and keeping revs above 1500 and foot entirely off accelerator when going down hillls.

If you have a consumptiion readout you will be amazed by how much you save.
My BMW sometimes adds about 0.2 or so L per 100 just on a long downhill.

OK - I have to ask this.
If the fuel shuts off why doesn't the motor stop?
