Hi
We are tryin to locate timing chain kit for a ford explorer 1996a 4lt engine. We do know that it takes a X9 oil filter, Would you please be able to point us in the right direction on were we could get one from, we have contacted ford but they are a absolute rip off we have also looked on ebay but most of them start for the 1997 models & up, We are not sure weither these will fit it or not. Thank you Kim

I suggest you search for some US Ford part websites. You can get stuff shipped over for a fraction of the price compared to what we pay here.

I own one of those girls.
I would suggest try Ford Truck Enthusiast Forum
Google Search will find it.
My old girl has done over 300,000 ks , had the top done , to much moisture in the exhaust, upset the environment friendly gear. Tranny coughed its lolly big time, pleased it was all down hill. to get out. Only had reverse.
It was about 3rd of the price of S/H 100 series, at the time, add in the cost of the repairs it was still is a better buy than a Landcruiser.
Around 150,000 ks ago I checked with the local dealer, about the the timing chain, foreman was a friend so no bull bleep , his response was this hasn't been thrashed, don't worry about it.

Check out the link below Kim. It's a US of A site, but they ship stuff to 'Oz', and even afte payingr freight things are heaps cheaper than here. The Ford dealers are a real rip off. I've had a 2000 Explorer since new with about 180,000 kms. on the clock.Given me no trouble at all.Does all I ask of it. It's done the Cape, Steep Point, GRRd. plus towed our Caravan around for the last few years. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the replys will try them all. I have spoken to a mechanic and he has told me that you need a special tool from ford (that they will not lend or release) to remove some parts from engine would anyone be able to tell me if this is correct. Thanks Heaps for your time Kim

Mate try those links above for the special tool, but I think it's a wives tale spread by Ford Australia.

I had a 99 Explorer and got all my parts from the links above!!
