About 3 weeks ago I took my oldest GXL in to Darwin to sell, I drove around some car yards and got the run around, I either wanted to much or it had too many k's on it, the best offer was $14000 for a 2002 GXL with 320000 k's in good condition and detailed.

I wasn't going to give it away so I took it back to Jabiru and had a think, just as well, because I came up with the idea to put it in the auctions, well I took it back in on Monday and the guy valued it at about $18000 so that was the reserve we put on it.

Today I was just about to tee off on the third hole and the phone rang, the guy from the action said we just sold the car for $18250, well that made my day, a $100 to put it in the action $660 commission, so $17490 in the bank, that makes for a great trip to Europe on Sunday, and the rest of the round wasn't to bad either. lol.

So next time you want to sell a car try the actions in stead.

The price(s) offered by the car yards would have been wholesale. The price achieved at the auction reflects the value or the price the market was prepared to pay.

That's why I called it a win,the $3500 ended up in my pocket and not in the pocket of some car yard salesman.

But Steve, you have to remember, if a car yard buys your car they then have check it out mechanically, provide a Safety Certificate and provide a Warranty for at least three months, and then try to make a profit. If they paid $18,000 for it at the auction they would be looking at ~$25,000 to sell it.

Let's say it sold privately at the auction. Caveat Emptor - Let the buyer beware. No warrant. No comebacks at all.

Not saying your vehicle would be a dud - just horses for courses.

I would NEVER buy a ZD30 at auction.

Yeah I nearly gave it away, so that's why I had a win.lol

As I said the extra money went in to MY pocket, I have bought enough car to understand how the system works.

Hi Steve,
as you had it detailed would it have been worth a go selling it privately.I have sold my last 11 cars privately usually for half way between wholesale and retail. With the advent of the internet it is now easier then ever before. Anyway glad you got the result you wanted.
