looking at getting a Waeco 50 to go along side our Engel to be used as a freezer, can you leave the waeco plugged into both power sources at the same time and does it choose the 240v over the 12v like the Engel does.

Thanks

Thanks Mandrake, the guy selling them in our local camping shop said it should not be done, but I can't see where it says not to.

AFAIK,they run off 12v all the time even when plugged into 240v.
Ive had mine plugged into both sources for weeks at a time.

Just to save any confusion here I just rang Waeco service and their response is -

As soon as 240 volt is sensed by the unit it disconnects the 12 volt input socket.

When 240 volt is switched off - the 12 volt socket becomes active again ..

Not sure about the newer models but the older ones like mine actually use 24v when connected to the 240v brick.

The new ones don't have a "brick" - its built in now - Just a terminated cable .

Yeah I know, but in reality all they've done is put the brick inside. Wonder if the dc reg still puts out 24v?

Just as the Engel does...uses 240v if there and 12v if not....we have an older Waeco 50l and it does not have this function...Engel have had it on their fridges for some years now...Waeco have finally woken up and caught up , great when camping to have the fridge plugged into both power sources...the van battery and the genny when it comes on...cheers

Bruce they must of woken up 9 years ago as I have CF-50 with an MPS-50 power supply and I connect 240v and 12v at the same time so as when the gennie goes off the battery's take over.

Weeelll ..you are a lucky boy Wazzaaaa , we have only had ours for about 6yrs and I can assure you that it does not have that feature...but it does not really bother us as it only travels with us now when we go touring and is almost full time connected to 12v supply....the Engel goes camping...cheers

Weeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! Bruce you obviously bought the EPS-817A Power supply with your waeco, I bought the MPS-50 with mine so I could connect both supplys at once, they actually woke me up to that point at waeco when I first bought it.

be warned if powering from battery 50L as freezer uses approx 50/60Ah
suggest you look to 25L or 32L as freezer

Thanks Paul, should be a bit less than that I hope, once all the contents are frozen and only opening the lid once or twice a day should not need to run it flat out, we only have the engel dial on 3 out of 5 to keep that frozen so the fridge is still cycling and not continually running.

Yep mine does that if it's running at the time when I disconnect the 240v. I've got into the habit of switching it off disconnecting and switching on again.

I think you will find the error light comes on because of the disruption of power as it changes over from the 12v lead from your battery to the internal 240v multivoltage adapter, my old waeco does it every time the power switch is made between battery and my MPS-50 adapter. My new waeco does it as well it soon settles down.
