Hi,
I'm driving on the stuart highway from
Port Augusta to
Coober Pedy on Christmas day itself. Does anybody know if the gas stations will be open on that day?
KR,
Jeroen

The ideal place to get fuel would be Glendambo or fill up at
Pimba.
If you have the range get fuel at
Coober Pedy.
Why don't you give them a call and find out for sure, it's along way to go and run out of fuel......
I would say you would have a 50/50 chances of them being open or closed.

Thats only 540K. Are you sure you won't make it on one tank?
Glendambo is 234K up the road and I would bet you would get fuel there. Drop them a line and ask. Or drop an email to the motel at: reservations@glendambo-travelstop.com.au
I cannot find the email for the fuel station.

You wont like the prices at the roadhouses on the Stuart.
What are you driving to need fuel on that stretch.
We did it non stop in a Croozer with a big van on
Its 549k so most would get there on a tank
Slow down a bit, go further

Fuel is generally dearer at
Pimba, so avoid that if you can.
If you are getting fuel in
Coober Pedy, the
Caltex servo as you enter the town (on the left) is also a rip-off merchant. There are two outlets (
Mobil and Shell) down into the town... drive through the main street (heading north-east?) and turn right into what looks like an industrial area (Umoona Rd), at the bottom of the
lookout area and Winch. Back in July,
Mobil on the right had diesel for 132.9 c/L and Shell further around the corner had diesel for 136.9 c/L.
Caltex was 141.9.
There are a couple of other servos in the town as
well, but the
Mobil and Shell in the 'industrial area' were cheaper - but they are more likely to be closed on Christmas Day.
Caltex: (08) 8672 5350
Mobil: Lot 88 Umoona Rd,
Coober Pedy - (08) 8672 5230
Shell: Lot 1299 Old
Water Tank Rd
Coober Pedy - (08) 8672 5830
Safe travels

If you stop at that first van
park on the right as you come into
Coober Pedy (forget the name) they give you a fuel discount at the
Caltex. Don't bother with it. Even after the discount it is still cheaper at the
Mobil & probably the Shell too.

You have to do it at the tap in town as the van parks dont have
water \.
The Big 4 has 4 sites with taps for which they charge you an extra $5 a night for
water you would use in the amenities anyway

I am pretty sure last time I visited Glendambo the BP had an after hours fuel pump that will accept cards.
Give them a ring to confirm.
Just a small point; I have found every now and again, that some times these smaller Servos run out of some fuels.
Don't forget to carry plenty of
water especially at this time of year.
Have a great trip
