Hi Bungarra
I just had a Auscruise fitted two weeks ago. Does the trick. Looked around and this one seems to be recommended by most people.
Two hours to fit at a cost of $745. There is a number of suppliers registered to fit these units in
Perth but the price varied from around $745 to $1280. Most where around the $750 mark.
I went with one called CruiseWest 0418 910 916 only because he was closer, right price and could fit me in on the Monday I needed.
The control unit sits just about the idle up button. I would have liked it on steering wheel but the unit is too small to reach with your fingers if it is put on the boss of the ute steering wheel.
Hope that helps.
David

I have a Command cruise control fitted prior to delivery of my vehicle. From memory about $650, but that was about 15 months ago.
Works very
well. Only issue was that due to design of steering wheel they could not fit one of the on wheel push button controls. Had to be a stalk on steering column. Not really a problem though and easy to operate.

I considered a cruise control as my car has one and all the work cars have them and I like them and use them a fair bit
Having had the cruiser for a while and driven it a bit I see no need for it in my 79 series 4.5L TDV8. Maybe it's to do with the balance of power, torque, driving style locality or whatever. But for me I don't need one or want one in the cruiser.
Pretty clear other drivers have a different view.
Just would suggest anyone getting one of those cruisers may be better to drive it a bit before getting a cruise control. Could
well decide like me that it is not needed and save a bit of money.

I'm with you Flynnie, the 70 series are a vehicle you have to drive... have had them before in cars and the Prado, but not for the Troopy.
Cheers

Have owned my vehicle for nearly 2 years and based my question on my driving experience / habits on the vehicle.
reason for considering a cruise control is simply because I find that I am maintaining a driving to a speed 5km either side of where I want to be and with so much power under the bonnet (chipped as
well) everytime I increase or decrease pedal pressure it all contributes to economy...so little adjustment on the pedal and such a big increase / decrease in speed
Secondly I do a lot of very long distance driving and set and forget would be nice..(economy and speeding tickets)

Hi bungarra.
When I picked up my Troopy. After I got an HF the next thing I was going to get was a cruise control, the vehicles I use to travel on main/highways here have cruise control.
Delays outside of my control caused both things not to happen.
Two years later and 25,000 ks used for a few months each winter.
I now have a 2nd/hand HF and after 25000ks of outback travel I would not bother spending $800 odd dollars on a cruise control, to me there is a bit of a balance where the revs sound about right, glance now an then at the speedo,
perhaps because as some say (agriculture type vehicle) with along with horses I have spent most of my time on, one is more aware?.
I play the ipod, tune into local radio when I can, so there is other distractions.
I do have a bit of problem though, I do try to avoid Highways and try to travel the gravel and dirt as much as possible, It makes is it a bit slower when you meet a local on the road and stop for a yarn.
Last trip because of weather and then family I headed from
Roma to
Canberra, took 4 days not many on sealed roads, back to
Brisbane avoiding the back end of B Trains and Idiots took 5 days, still going through the photographs.
Cruise Control???!
What for.

Like most of the others I've got the AusCruise from Autron in my TDV8 as
well.
It's been on the vehicle from near enough new, and it's never had a problem. I got to admit, for those long boring tar roads we drive on to get to the interesting
places, it's
well worth the money.
Davids mentioned price of around $750 was about what I paid here in
Perth as
well.

Oh - forgot to say - I've got the control unit mounted on the side of the dash, just above the idle-up switch box. A nice convenient location.
