My daughter is thinking of trading her 2000 Hilux in on an 07 auto diesel Hilux. She does a lot of horse float towing. Any comments on towing ability, economy, auto appreciated. We are aware of the legal towing capacity, that is sufficient.

You will not have a problem with the Hilux.

The only thing I would suggest is fit a bigger oil cooler for the trans and maybe better brake pads.

Get a Prodigy bake controller and fit it into the ash tray slot and make sure the horse float has electric brakes that work.

If she was happy with her old Hilux then she will love the new one.

We tow weighing 4500Kg when traveling and we sit on 100 -110Kph with ou much problems, we get about 13.5 - 15lts per 100k.

I have just read on some other forums that people have had trouble with toyota hilux autos overheating when towing loads over 1500kg. Has anyone else had this problem?

A number of people have fitted a transmission cooler if they are doing a lot of towing with the auto D4D , not an expensive upgrade.
I would not consider this a deterrent if the vehicle suited you in all other aspects
