Little OT but thought some people might be interested, some time Monday night early Tuesday morning the first of the round the world Clipper race yachts will be arriving here in
Geraldton West Australia to have there only Australian. The 10 Clippers are 68ft identical boats crewed by 10 paying amateur crew and a professional skipper sailed by 10 different nationalities.
It will be hugh for the town as this is a changeover port and xmas in the middle will mean lots of people in town. I beleive most accommadation has been
well and truly taken. It is rumoured each yacht will spend close to 7 figures it is the only time they come out of the
water for a keel and rudder check clean and antifoule.New years eve at the
Geraldton Yacht club will be different as each country will celebrete at a different time could be a very long night. They leave on the 3rd of January for China, Californa ,Caribbean ,home to UK
www.clipperroundtheworld.com is the web site which gives all the positions

Yeah big steel boats that are bullet proof, not the fastest by provide some enterntainment to the crews, I prefer the Volvo 70's.

I hope the council recoups some of the money they put up for it since they are so busily cutting back on other more important spending. Seems to me that the people who stand to gain from the race arent nessarily the ratepayers. Sorry for my pesimisson. I will head down to the marine for a look for sure.
Cheers

Pretty close to the mark last time the clippers were here they left FSC with a bill and FSC agreed to host this year BUT needed the debt repaid and the Clipper mob said see ya going to Gero. As I said I beleive the i and t have been dotted and crossed so shouldn't happen.
Agree fully time will tell it is a worry
