Wonnangatta via Dargo

We are looking to head into Wonnangatta this January, preferably via Dargo and am looking for advise on the easiest way in. We will be in an NM Pajero towing an off road camper - I know there is no really "easy" way in, but am after the "easiest" from this direction.
After reading many posts it looks like Eaglevale / Wombat Range / Humffray tracks could be the choice - what do you guys think?
We plan to exit to the North so that should be no great problem.
If the Dargo route sounds too hard we will go via Zeka Spur, always assuming it is dry.
In the event of rain we will most likely give the idea a miss and leave it for another time.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Ian

Hi Ian,
the route you have suggested would seem to be the most reasonable considering you are towing. You are also right about rain. These tracks are doable when wet but the camper would make it very interesting. Have a great trip.

Take a look at Tea Tree Range track from the Racecourse area near Talbotville. It's a gentle climb up then down Harts Bluff track into the valley.

Cheers

I second that, Talbotville would be the easiest way in from my meagre memory

Just how steep will these tracks be?
The steepest we have done towing the camper would be the descent to Tom Groggin down Tom Groggin Track to the Murray - any idea of comparison with that?
Thanks heaps for your replies so far, it has been a great help in our planning.

Just as steep but just as much fun if it rains! As you suggested the track leading down wombat range would be the best option and turn left when at the bottom. IF your keen you could go down Herne spur but only if it is not raining or had recent rain.

Why via Dargo?. Unless you live that side I would go into the 'gatta' via Licola & Zeka Spur.

If you decide going in via Dargo, give Herne Spur a miss if towing a camper, whether it be wet or dry. Is quite steep & surprised that others would suggest that route when towing a camper trailer. There is also one steep section on Eaglevale Tk that will require care, but it is your call. If it was me, I would be going in via Licola.

The reason for going in via Dargo is because we will be spending time at the 90 mile beach beforehand (near Loch Sport) so Dargo would be the most direct. As we want to finish up in Mount Beauty we can travel along the Great Alpine Road if the weather is too wet to allow us to get into Wonangatta.
So Dargo is the most logical route for us, providing it is do-able - hope this explains our choice.

Ok Ian, understand now.

Again, it should be fine in the dry & the rivers should all be ok, but as you know it doesnt take much for things to change up in the H/C after a little rain. Added advantage is you drive a Paj, so all should be good...lol

From the 'gatta' is an easy drive to Mt Beauty, so hope you enjoy.

BTW, I will at Talbotville over the Aust day weekend, so if you are going through there at that time; drop in.
