As an X Ford mechanic I found
Explorers dificult to work on, But if its cooked & needs a new recon motor its only a matter of lifting it out & refit recon motor. Your problem will be paying the labour cost for time & recon motor.

G/Day gordi
I use the wifes old 2000 Ford Explorer as a work vehicle in our business, it just recently turned over 100k, and from what I'm hereing about repair costs and the price of parts, I will be getting rid of it very soon, they have dropped in value and you would be flat out getting anymore than $7000 for it if you traded it, and thats if it's in really good condition, I would hate to pay out more than the what the vehicles is worth in repairs.
Cheers

From what I have seen of the performance, or lack thereof, of the Ford Explorer my advice would be to take off the one of the wheel nuts from the front right hand wheel
Then try and find something that fits the wheel nut.....
One of my most vivid memories of the Ford Exlporer is when friends of mne on a 4WD course failed to climb a sand
hill after something like 6 attempts!
They promptly swapped it for a diesel Pajero.....LOL.
