Juist watched an old Leyland Brothers episode on channel 72. Classic treks & vehicles. They featured mud races in Moree and a trek through the Victorian high country & Wonnangatta Valley in an old Wagoneer and an ex army weapons carrier which looked like a Jeep on steroids.

Great Stuff

Yeah agree Bonz the world is a little poorer whenever someone like that passes away. Not trying to nitpick..I think it was Parkinsons with some other complications.
I saw the same episode and got out my dvd 2 pack that contains the original trip and the one that a tour company organised in 2006 to celerbrate the 40th of that first west east crossing. They had Mike Leyland driving one of the participating vehicles.
It got me wondering, with the exception of Mike of course, where the crew of that first crossing are now. I have seen some of the shows that Mal and his family have done since then but wondered where Mike's first wife Pat, his mechanic Ted Hayes and the biologist Keith Davey are now if still with us. I think Mike had 2 or 3 daughters with his first wife.

Cheers
Pop

Yes Pop, you are right it was Parkinsons. I watched all their antics as a youngster and I think it fuelled my love of the bush and adventure.

Yes I too wonder where there crew are.
