offroad van into Bungle Bungles

Hi

I am posting this on behalf of a mate who is not all that up with computers and the like (Once got lost lost driving up the western highway but thats another story!)

Anyway we are heading to the Kimberley's next year and want to go into the Bungle Bungles. We have an Aussie Swag and I beleive that these type of traliers can get in OK. However my mate has a brand new Track offroad Topaz caravan. Just wondering what peoples thoughts are getting into the Bungles

many thanks

As far as I know the type of off road trailer/ camper that is allowed into the Bungles, must be single axle.

The rules have been changed a bit lately but to be sure a phone call to the Park might be in order.

Agree with Wayne.
It used to be off road single axle trailers only, No caravans but I read somewhere they have made some allowances for the new generation off road caravans.

Ring the Rangers station and ask or chase down their web site to see if any info is on there.

We were there in August (not towing) and there were plenty of camper trailers at the campsites.

The road is twisty and not well cambered but I wouldn't think he'd have any problems unless his clearance isn't good as there are a few creek crossings, but again, nothing challenging to a good clearance.

Road surface is mostly hard/dusty with one patch of bad bulldust with a detour option.

It's a great scenic drive so another reason to take it slowly.

Cheers.

Hi,

We travelled through the area last year with the Tvan and had no problems at all, and I wouldn't expect the Topaz would either.

The issue is more likely one of interpretation and 'administrative' rather than anything else. As mentioned earlier a phone call would be the answer.

Plenty of other campers around at the time.

Hi Outback

What size is your mate's caravan?

I understand the broadening definition of trailers allowed in this year included permitting small single axled vans in. People were already taking wind up vans in under the guise of camper trailers, and some genuine camper trailers were bigger than small vans being excluded.

Check out archived thread 69669 for a few comments on road conditions.

We were happy to leave our van behind and camp out for a couple of days. We would have got our rig in OK so long as we didn't meet too many of the 'idiots' going way to fast for the conditions especially where visibility is limited, but Parks had there rules and their reasons which we respect. There are accidents and recoveries fairly often.

We were also there in July. Came across two camper trailers on the way out both with broken springs.

If you don't need it and can camp for a day or two (one night may be enough) call the Turkey Creek roadhouse and ask if you can leave it there. The cost may be worth as an investment against damaging the van. You will also save a bit of fuel as its a long slow slug on the corrugations we had. Luckily the LC just floated over them. No vibration - just noisy. Love those Bilstiens.

You can also stay there at one of the tour places in the woopeedoo safari gizmo's. Not again. We did for one night but I wouldn't again. We froze as it got cold and the bed was king size - no blanket and linen sheets. The other night was fine in our tent. A total waste of money. But I just mention it in case you were considering it.

Someone person left theirs at the gate but I wouldn't - could easily walk.

Worth a thought.

What I meant to say is that when we were there someone left their camper trailor at the gate where you tiurn off the highway. Nice and visible and liable to get stolen.

"In fact, to call the park or the area "Bungle Bungles" is technically incorrect. It's the Bungle Bungle, singular. Bungles is acceptable. Bungle Bungles? Never."

There is a south west and north west and even a mid west, does that make it Western Australias. No misconception, it is Kimberley.....

Pedantic little lot aren't we. So long as a place is spelt correctly at least once in the thread so a search will work is all that is needed. We all know which places are being referred to by the common plural errors (seen in many travel websites as well) and various names.

Outback, i hope you and your friends spend a few days there - it is a great place, and camping out in the campgrounds amongst trees and birds most enjoyable. We spent one night at each camp, to do the walks at each end of the park.

Outback epicurean

I did some checks on your van, NICE flash one, and made by reputable camper trailer makers.

There will have no worries getting into the Bungle Bungle Park, and the campsites, the Bull dust can be skirted, otherwise yust take your time.
It still may pay to ring the Rangers Station, and check with them.
Sorry I don't have their phone No.

Cheers

we were in the Bungles this year. the road was in average condition, we saw a couple of offroad jayco eagle campertrailers in there. im guessing thats about a large as you would want to tow into that park.
