I'd keep Middle Lagoon in mind - what a fabulous bay - we saw whales from the cliffs - the traditional owners are nice people with good camping at fair prices - power, water and ablutions included - there's a nice tidal river at the far end of the bay too. The tides were minimal while we were there in August/Sept. last year, so hardly spent any time fishing (tides do get up around the 10m+ range) - quite a lot of boaties go in there. My guess is that on a full tide, just after dusk, there would be heaps of fish in that bay.

Plenty of half great camping spots up there. Cape Leveque is nice, nice view and will also see whales. Need to book ahead though. If fishing/crabbing is more your thing i would stay at Middle Lagoon, nice place, again nice view and decent facilities. Usually alot of people there though, so if privacy is more your thing you could try a number of other places along the Peninsula. I stayed at Gumbanun a few months ago, and it wasnt too bad but i prefer Middle Lagoon for its fishing and crabbing, and also nice sunsets.

Great place and hope to be back there myself this year. The road is ever improving. If you can survive unpowered in the camping stakes, the unpowered sites have a fantastic position above the cliffs. Tent accomodations are sensational as well. Some reading material.

Just looking at the BOM site (wed 16) - if 'Lackers' (aka cyclone Lawrence @ category 5) gets any closer to Leveque and surrounding regions your query might be entirely academic !!
