I am building extra storage draws for the Prado. I saw some threads recently with photos of home built sets... but can't locate them.
What I need to know is... What do you use for draw sliders? I need something cheap and easy. I once saw a set made out of some sort of gal angle iron, but cannot remember specifics and how they were set up. All help appreciated,
regards

I used a sturdy plastic industrial tub as the draw and it just sits under a mdf 3-sided box that is open at the back and has a double shelf near the top. The lower shelf is a pull out work table. The runners are just pine 2x1 screwed to the MDF. Simple and light. If I want something in the box I just pull it out and rest it on the bumper. It has all the
tools and spares I need. If required I just pull the whole tub out and sit it on the floor.
The whole thing lifts out of the car if need be in a couple of minutes. It just sits up behind the cargo barrier on one side with the 40litre fridge on the other side.
I looked at slides and draws but could not justify all the weight and expense even if they do look really nice!

Fred,
We do our drawers with Angle Gal Steel. But, and this as a big but, all of our cutting, drilling, routing etc is done on a CNC, Computer Driven, Flatbed Router; it is a $100,000 machine. It works to tolerances of .05 mm (2 thou').
It is simply not possible to drill holes, cut panels, set rout distances by hand to make them work properly. They will rattle, squeak and eventually shake themselves to bits.
You really only have two options
1. Buy some full extension slides (Accuride or the like)
2. Simlpy run the drawers on plastic skids underneath each drawer.
I hope this helps,
Jim.

See
here for how I did
mine. Total cost was about $160 and it works for us.

Here's what I put in
mine - made from ply and simply used wax to help slide the drawers in and out, with a large hole drilled into the back of the drawer to allow air to escape when pushing/pulling.
A bloke in my old club was a cabinet maker who cut the sheets on his machines. Another couple of mates, one a trade teacher and the other who had similar drawers (his have been all over Australia in his old GQ and now GU) helped me to put it together.
They are attached to the 4 tie-owns and the slide-out prep. tables were handy for lunch stops. On our 6 month trip last year it obviously got some use and we were stoked with it.
Mark.

Just watch it through to the end and you'll get a good look at our draw system.
