Yes, never wish anyone any harm, however, most cyclones are usually accompanied by high winds and rain (lots of it). Locals generally know how to best survive. It's the tourists that are the problem.

AH well it's an ill wind that blows nobody any good as they say.

According to the Eastern states forecast tonight it looks like Laurence is going to feed some moisture into a trough in the east and give central NSW a bit of rain. We;ve had 2mm so far in December and the Dam on the Lachlan, Wyangala, is down to 4.3%

At last report Laurence looks like doing a coastal crossing and dumping much needed rain without too much flooding. That was what the forecaster was saying on our weather report at 12.30pm.

I still cant believe its been 10 years to the day since I sat through Cyclone John which at the time was the strongest cyclone to cross the Australian coast. Time goes by so quickly.

Been raining all night here again its brilliant. The cyclone has jumped up to a CAT 4 now and still heading south, He is still dropping alot of rain up north which was needed alot.

Looks like it will be getting quite windy in Kuri bay this morning. Would't want to be there thats for sure

We are currently sitting at Palm Grove CP Broome!!! the plan was to spend Christmas here, however its now a Cat 4 and headed for Derby, we have a plan in place and the truck is full of Diesel. If we get a code blue we are hightailling it down the coast, at the moment its only travelling at 11k's per hour. No wind here at the moment just overcast and the occasional spit of rain.

Can handle wind and rain's no worries so hopefully that's all it is and we can spend Christmas here in Broome. Will make a decision in the morning (Thursday)

Cheers
Caz.

Caz, just received an email to say the FESA expect us to be getting high winds from about 2am tonight. Once they start it would be very dangerous to try high tailing it, especially as the cyclone will be coming from that way. apparently its a very small but very very powerful cyclone, and is being compared to Cyclone Tracey.

Back to a 4 now. Hopefully it hits land and dies, but brings a bit of rain and some nice overcast weather.

Hi Kroozer

Thanks for the advice, a cyclone is not something we have experienced before, the plan is when we get to yellow to leave, we figured that the cyclone is moving towards us at a rate of between 11 - 15 k's per hour and we could 'outrun it" so to speak, is this kind of thinking wrong? I appreciate any advice as the park we are at don't seem to have tie down points.

I am hopeful it will fizzle into much needed rain.

Cheers
Caz

Sorry about the late reply Caz, with the path the cyclone is tracking by time we go to yellow alert you would probably wanna start heading out very quickly as the cyclone will be coming into town in the same direction as the highway. It is about 40 kilometres wide, so once it is at Derby we will probably start feeling some wind. It wont get very strong till we go Red but then it would be too late to move. Hopefully it fizzles down and just brings rain and nice temperatures. Just keep checking the BOM tracker, hopefully it dies soon.

I would try to tie the van down to something, maybe take it to the police station or something and book into a hotel if its too late to leave. Dont stay in the van thats for sure.

Hi Kroozer

Thanks for the reply, we would not stay in the van and had decided to go on yellow instead of blue. its 6am on Thurs now and if the TC does what the BOM says it will all be good, however if it moves back out to sea then it will re-intensify. Will keep a close watch on the BOM.

Cheers

The info that is provided to the mining company my husband works for has the cyclone go back out to sea and become a cat3 of the pilbara coast in 72hrs - as of 3am Thurs. It will be sitting between Pt Hedland and Karratha.

Hey Caz

You will be pretty right in Broome i think but also im not the weather man, but looking at the path of the cyclone and the amount of land its crossing to get to Broome its only going to be Cat 1 which is probably going to be fairly windy but not enought to wipe Broome out.

But saying that by the looks of it, its going to go back out to sea and build up again and then who knows what its going to do?

We missed all the wind up here but hasnt stopped raining since it came past, another 55mm over night. Its been beautiful

Where are you planning to go if you are leaving before it comes?

Cheers

Hi Tukka,

Just checked the BOM again and its seems to be heading sth east Derby ect are now down to Yellow. Yep our concern is if it heads back out to sea, intensifies and comes back...................... We packed EVERYTHING up last night just in case the 2am winds came through (better to be safe than sorry) and no winds as yet, it has been overcast for 2 days now (nice to have some relief from the sun).

Guess its just a long waiting game now. At least we have the technology these day's to be able to make some sort of predictions.

The plan is to head south (and keep heading south if it follows us).

Cheers

Correct

By the looks of it now Broome will probably just get alot of rain (which is needed) just to settle some dust and cool the joint down. Maybe a bit of wind but probably not enough to leave lovely old Broome town

Cheers
