What price for DTS Turbo & Intercooler to suit 1HZ ?

Has anyone had a new DTS Turbo & Intercooler fitted to a 1HZ in a HZJ105 Lancruiser ? and what price was it?

I had just the turbo fitted to my 1HZJ about three years ago at 150,000 K's. Including a tune up it cost me $3,800 and I reckon it was money
well spent. The firm that fitted it said they thought the extra money for an intercooler was too many $$ for too little gain so I didn't go there !

I fitted a DTS kit myself about 8 months ago, the kit including full exhaust system was $3k.
Fitted a top mounted cooler complete kit with electric fan and
bonnet scoop $1100.
Have also fitted a boost gauge and exhaust temp gauge. I cannot say that I have had any performance gains from the intercooler but it has definently dropped the exhaust temp.

Probably close to the mark for drive in drive out. Had one fitted 16 months ago minus the intercooler $4500.00 inc exhaust. There are cheaper intercoolers around than the Denco unit.

I'm amazed at what they charge to fit a turbo kit, it is not that big or difficult a job, and I'm sure they would get the kit cheaper trade than I would have buying it from ARB.

Have you done your homework on turbocharging the 1HZ, particularly in the 105?
If not, do a thread search here and join LCOOL and search there.
I had the same idea as you, but have since decided against the whole idea of strapping a turbo to the 1HZ. Fraught with danger.
IMO, the BEST units out there are the Safari Split pulse units and I wouldn't contemplate turboing the 1HZ without an intercooler.
At the end of the day, there wouldn't be much in it price wise between doing the turbo PROPERLY and getting a multi valve turbo engine from a wreck and fitting that.

No GUTS no GLORY. Honestly it is the best thing I ever did. So much better for day to day driving it is just unbelievable difference. Had a EGT guage fitted, boost at 7psi and drive according to the EGT.

We had a Denco turbo and bigger exhaust fitted to our Troopy in 2006 and it has been great. We do not have an inter cooler; decided the gain wasn't worth it. We had lots of people say don't fit it to an HZ motor, but it has been fine. We have more power and better fuel consumption.
Since fitting it we have done a few hard slogs, at least twice over the Simpson, Googs, around
Alice Springs and various tracks around SA and SW Queensland. We also tow a van and it is a much better proposition these days.
From our experience I would say, "Go for it."
Ours cost around the $4000 mark from memory.

Gizmo I am now fitting a DTS Turbo and intercooler to 2006 1HZ 100series and as long as the motor is not too long in the tooth and you don't play with the boost setting and run an E.T.G. you will not have a problem cost around $4800. If a little long in tooth it wouldn't hirt to do your bearings etc.

Can't help much with the price,
mine has sort of been a fit change, fit change etc affair. If doing the whole lot, and you're handy on the
tools I would budget around $6000. Don't forget EGT and boost guages so you know what's going on.
As has been mentioned, if turboing a 1HZ engine, do the job properly from start to finish. Be reasonable with your power expectations so that you can ensure the longest possible life from your engine. I believe an intercooler IS required to help lower intake temps (not necessarily gain more power as others mention).
My vote is for a good ball bearing turbo (
water and oil cooled), mounted to a Safari split pulse manifold (which has a T3 flange), into an intercooler (some interesting results from Laminova cores or maybe Plazmaman), using the biggest heat exchanger you can fit (PWR will make one to fit the space), with the lot running out of a full mandrel exhaust from the turbo back.

I agree that this is the best way to do it, but you may still end up with engine longevity issues or a cracked head/pre-combustion chambers etc. Pot luck.
Just as long as you don't whinge the place down when this happens down the track in a few years.........

PS. don't get me wrong, I would love some extra power, but don't want to spend my hard earned $$ on something that MAY just cost me a whole heap more in time to come.
Then........there are the issues with the r151 gearbox, but I wont start that can of worms either. ;-)
