My brother has a 2000 model auto petrol 6cyl vehicle and recently the (green)light that indicates you are in 4x4 comes on and causes the car to sometime falter as if low oil in gearbox. This is while driving in 2x4
So far all oils level have been checked and all correct. two mechanics have checked the vehicle and say nothing is wrong.
I figure its electrical, maybe a dirty connector but why the vehicle falters is a puzzle.
Anyone have a thought or have had the same issue with their Monterey.
Thanks
Brian

I don't know much about the Monteray, but a lot of the 4WD systems use Vacuum to activate the 4WD.
If a piupe was dislodged or leaking, it may also affect other aspects of the system that rely on Vacuum.

Brian , I have the same model Jack but it is all manual re 4WD. If yours engages
by an electrical circuit it may
well be engaging 4wd via a short or other malfunction. The sudden engagement might be the cause of the"falter "you refer
to. Only guesswork from a bush mechanic...cheers....oldbaz.

Hi Brian Not familliar with your vehicle but does it select 4Wd automaticly if its that type they generaly use a sensor on the front & rear drive shafts. These sense a difference in shaft speeds & automaticly select 4Wd. Have seen one faulty sensor intermittently cause 4Wd to be activated on Ford
