Afternoon All
I'm wondering what the benefit's if any are from using
31/10.5 R15 or 245/75 R16 Both tyres are basicly the same rolling diameter
Would the 15" tyres be more prone to staking given the larger wall?

I think that these days 15" tyres are becoming less available as most manufactures are going 16 or 17 inch.
I haven't seen a new 31x10.5 R15 for yonks.
Cheers

Not sure of the benefits, maybe one of price. I recently got new Firestone Firehawks
that size in 15" without any trouble for around $220...bloody good tyre at a
bl**dy good price. Unsure if available in the 16" size. I have no staking issues
since going to 50 psi...offroad sprayrig.....oldbaz.

Personally, I would prefer to have the 15's, simply because they can "bag out" better without risking the rim in offroad situations, however the 16's would handle on road better because there would be likely less lateral tyre distortion when hard cornering, so it would really come down to what an individual wants to do.
I don't think there would be much more risk with side wall stakes on a 15 compared to a 16, I think that would depend on what brand of tyre you are using, more than anything else

Hi Norm,
I have run Desert Duelers 31x10.5x15 on 15x8 rims since owning my old girl for the past 5 1/2 years(nearly 60000k's) without a problem. I've been very happy with their grip, on road & off, I run them at 44 psi on road & 28 psi off road, of cause in sand I'll drop them down to about 18 psi. I'd hate to think I won't be able to buy that size any more. I hope your wrong Dave.
One thing that gets under my skin is, seeing 4by's running 22"
wheels and 45 series road tyres. If you want that kinda thing, buy a WRX.

Norm, I'm in the tyre business and 31/10.5s are readily available. The fatter the tyre the more chance of staking on off road tracks. Its not the bagging you need its the footprint when tyres are deflated that is important. Probably personal preference in the end
Cheers
