Trying to plan a trip up to the Omeo Valley, but confused about the quickest way to get there from the Yarra Valley? Three kids and the dog, it needs to be quick.
Camping in that area? Thinking the Hinnomunjie Bridge Camp? Any thoughts? Stayed for two weeks at the Buckland valley last year wonderful time great spot.

From the Yarra valley the quickest and easiest route would be along the Princes Hwy and Omeo Hwy via Bairnsdale & Bruthen.
Good roads all the way with some fabulous scenery along the Omeo Hwy.
Have a good trip and enjoy the break.

Agree with that. The Hinnomunjie Bridge is a good camp spot. Get a fishing license an try the trout. There are also Platypus in the river here.
Cheers

We have camped a bit north of Omeo in the Mitta Mitta Valley. There are numerous spots. Check in Camps 5.
Watched some blokes catch trout which seemed really easy. We enjoyed the lovely sound of the river passing as well as the birds in the morning.
Enjoy the trip

We just this week have done a recon forcamp sites where you are thinkingof going.

The camps 5 is our source and the Hinnomunjie Bridge is not in that one. We checked out Camps 5 site number 121, The Joker campground and this was the best. Flat camp spots, swimming pool in the river forkids with jumping spot as well. The river is great for water which is crystal clear. Ther long drop is the cleanest we have ever seen. There are BBQ and wood tables. No cell phone however and this ruled it out for us.

The roadfrom Falls creek is newand sealed but the suggested route might be quicker. The climb up the montain from Mt Beauty is steep and you need a powerful ttruck. The scenery however is fantastic.

That was the one we stayed in and I concur with your impressions of it. Will visit again before our family leave Sale for Perth again.

I would think that no mobile would be another reason to camp there.

Happy trails, Mike.

Thanks Carl. That Joker campground I think it is in national park?
Unsure if you can have a well behaved dog there. Kids out of control.

If it is in fact in the Alpine National Park then dogs are defiantly not permitted, (Huge fines issued) but not having mobile phone reception would be a big plus for me.

Sorry instead of cell phone coverage, I should say mobile internet coverage. It is handy for weather and news coverage. Good for news on any fires as well.

As someone mentioned on the road from Omeo to Falls Creek, there are 3 camp grounds. Anglers Rest, The Joker and Big River Bridge. Anglers Rest is very small and narrow. Big River bridge I did not see.

All are indeed in the national park.

There's one or two spots up on the fringe of the Bogong High Plains on the road to Falls Ck too.

That road hasn't been realigned and is pretty narrow so watch out for motorbikes .... it might be me ;-}

Does anyone know whether the Blue Duck is operating?

We camped off the Omeo hwy once; on the RHS of the road as you head North from Omeo to the Falls Creek road there's all these little dirt tracks down to the water and most seem to have a camp spot or 2.

Funny thing was we did it with a lowered XF Falcon that almost didn't make it out again, now there was a car that could take abuse...
