Plenty of places to camp, suggest you check the trek notes for the Hay River on this site.

As you can see this reply has the links highlighted in blue for your convenience.

The first thing to understand is you need a permit to travel the Hay River track and that can be obtained from Joel Fleming in Alice Springs. With the permits comes track notes and GPS plots. A stopover at Batton Hill is worthwhile regardless of the negative comments about cost etc. The experience is worth it along with the sunset at Goyder's Pillar

After that it depends on if you are heading from North to South or vice versa. Heading North to South spend a day at Lake Caroline, camping in the Hay River bed or along side it is a nice thing to do. After that about the end of the dune system where the tracks are sometimes very hard to find and the last day is past Madigan's camp 15 then you are into the Simpson Desert proper

Hi Errol,
Al things depend on the number in the group and the speed at which you are traveling. But basically it is just pick a suitable spot.Your choice may change if planned any way due to weather or wind storm etc.
It is a great trip and you will find many good spots as you go.God idea to get to Lindsay Bookies place at the end and have really good showers .Although we felt very much hemmed in .He has a lot of land and puts a group into a circular area the size of a postage stamp. Some of our members chose not to stay there.
Best of luck.

Hi Errol
This is one of the prettiest Simpson Tracks to drive, with more great camps than you care to find. Once you hit the Hay River proper, it is a good two well drive track in the dry, but a very different story when wet.

Cheers

Stephen

As with most Simpson Desert travel, you can camp anywhere along the track, but depending on your travel speeds, you could sometimes find yourself in a less than ideal camp site. My advice is to add in an extra day beyond that which you may require, this will allow you to chose your camp sites earlier in the day, do some exploring etc. Be sure to obey Lindsays rules once you are in his country which I beleive will soon start just north of Madigans Tree. No paper at all in the fire because in the desert country it blows out of the fire and can start fires. Presently Lindsays land starts north of Maddigan 15 nearer Lake Caroline turnoff. There are some great camp sites all the way along the track, with the odd place a bit inhospitable due to burrs on the ground. We run a tour through there each year, and by now have picked the better spots for camping to avoid the burrs which can be bad along the track north of Maddigan camp 15.
