Mate showed me the little motor that controls the speed of his vehicle, then mentioned that some vehicles do not have a steering box, just an electrical circuit that controls a motor, to change direction, glad I do not have to rely on these electrical circuits when I am in deep bush.

But then again its all heading towards electric cars so in one way its a step in the right direction.

Suzuki Swifts all have electric steering, haven't come across one that has caused any problems yet.

Electric steering yes but not by wire as such....instead of having a belt driven hydraulic steering pump, "electric steer" vehicles have an electricly (usually) 12v..depending on vehicle) driven hydraulic pump. You still have a steering box as such & should you have a failure with the electric pump, you can still steer it just like you can with a vehicle with a belt driven hydraulic pump....albeit some what heavy

Untill our design rules change (not that I think this will in a hurry) all passenger vehicles have a manual steering box or rack....they do have many different forms of assitance, air, hydraulic or electric! The manual link is still part of all the vehicles.

NONE STEER BY WIRE!

Hi Matt, I was wondering when someone would point out that there are no steer by wire cars on public roads yet. It's all on the design boards and some test tracks but no one can show me a vehicle that has passed design rules and is actually available for public use.

Our Mazda 3 has electric assist steering. Feels different to the normal power steering but not that much. It has the same assistance from lock to ock whereas normal power steering gets a little harder at the ends.

Does anyone know how to reboot my car. I plugged the USB port into my PC but cannot get the car to start from the PC. No communications at all. I must have the wrong IP address.

Who knows the IP address for my car please?

I wonder when it will get to this. Download your trek into the cars USB port and hop in the back and enjoy the ride.

Sounds like the very next step to Toyota's CRAWL system - I used to enjoy driving, not being a passenger...! :-)
