Mick O may have to pack his boat for next years trip rather than his 4wd motor bike.

I'd guess he'd pack the bike into the boat to cover the options.

lucky B!

The quad floats mate. Just got to pump the tyres up a bit LOL.

Cheers Mick

Aside from pumping up the tyres you would also need floaties to help with all the powdered milk on board. :-)

Yes Richard, they can be absolute rippers.

I was at Exmouth when TC Pancho passed a couple of hundred kms to the west Mar 2008. Got out of bed at 0200 to make my escape from the Lighthouse Caravan Park.

Made it past the town but got snookered at a creek a further 10kms south - it was before the Cruiser; driving a Fairmont towing my previous Quinnie.

We could not believe the intensity of the rain - no wind - just rain. Had to drive by following the centre white line and guessing the marker posts. Chk out the images the day after at:

http://haltthesalt.org.au/main/campaign_aerial_rain.php

It missed Exie by the proverbial, but what a dump.

Best. J.

I've never lived through one, lived in Cairns for a year in the 80's and just happen to leave just weeks before they realized why they call lake street by that name.. LOL

I give credit to the people that live up there full time.

Cheers

Richard

Bobby cost 11 mil and seven people died, so I do not wish for it......

Bobby dumped a heap of rain that filled the lakes around leonora. these drain south by way of ponton creekand terminate into a small previosly fairly unknown clay pan called lake boonderoo south of the Zanthus railway siding. (old maps show it but dont name it usually)

it got turned into a vast inland sea with so much water itstill had quite a bit in it after 10 years. There were dead gum trees which had been drowned as far as the eye could see.

truly a great but little known outback phenomanan

Good stuff,
so long as it doesn't interfere with my trip there next year, I am more than happy to see rock pools, gorges etc with lots of water.

Hi John

That would be good. When we visited Rudall in 05 it was the driest for many years. Even this year there wasn't much water around west of Rudall which in one way was good as we were able to cross over the Oakover River at Upper Carawine Gorge.

Weather Bureau says we will get some of that rain here in South Aus by mid week. Need another 13.5mm to break the annual rain 400mm record for modern times :-). Annual average is 312mm.

With increased rainfall we have noticed changes to the flora in our back yard. Our Olive trees are not fruiting as well and the Hard Shell Almonds have softer shells as the Galahs have been having a feast feeding on them (and making a mess on the back patio) as they can normally not break the shells.

Cheers

Hi willem, the latest track prediction is still very promising. See:

Still Looking Good

The path does indeed look like getting to you guys as it would still be a TC cat 1 getting to Giles - amazing!

Good to hear that the galahs are happy as well, heh heh.

Cheers.

It was as dry as a chip out there this year, no water anywhere except Desert Queen Baths and then it was well down on "normal" levels.
All the other waterholes had absolutely no sign of moisture at all.

18 mm of rainfall to 0900 this morning at Telfer Airport. I was hoping for a heap of rain over the next 4-5 months along the lines of 2006 as it is incredibly dry out there at present. In one of the ironies of the top end, it was a bad cyclone season that bought all the moisture into the desert areas in 2006 so while no wishes for that, it's amazing that such a destructive phenomena can bring a lot of life back to the parched inland.

The more rain the better.

Cheers Mick
