We are planning to go camping [6 tents] at either Telegherry River or Allyn River but not sure which is the best spot.

We have some kids who love the water and push bikes, so ideally we'd like to camp right near swimmable water with shade, space and not crowded.

Can anyone recommend the best place to camp in these two places or close by. We all have 4wds.

thanks in advance

Ladies Well is always popular, but as to your others questions......space and not crowded.......you may have to try Antarctica.......cause it ain't gonna happen around that part of Australia in school holidays !!!!!!!

As a "local" you would want to be up there now to claim your spot, it gets crowded pretty quickly during holiday periods. Can get very hot during the day with little or no breeze due to the encircling mountains/hills, you are also in the middle of temperate rainforest so humidity is high as well.
I haven't been up there lately but usually last weekend a rep from intending campers would have gone up in a caravan and "claimed" a spot ready for the kids and grandkids to turn up later this week. Not saying you won't fit in but you won't have the shade or be close to the creek unless really lucky. If it is raining anywhere it will be there too. Recent rain has concentrated on the mountains, we've not had much in the foothills.
As the previous poster said isolation and peace isn't going to happen this time of year unless it is wet which is the current forecast for next weekend.

We camped at Telegherry a couple of years ago. It wasn't during any school holidays however. We did the Jerusalem Falls walk. Beware the leeches!!

last time i tried to camp at telegherry -- it was fenced off --- and think it is still fenced off ( from 6 months ago ??) might be open now but was very disappointment .... the water is always ice cold though :) so bring your wetsuit ~!

Its now a very popular spot - so you will not be alone -- and chances are you will be next to someone with a generator that runs it all night .. or so was the case when we went over to allwyn -- guy had 4 HUGE spot lights set up and music blaring --- gen ran till about 11 pm every night ..

why camp in solitude and set the camp up like a rave party in the middle of the city ?

head over to stockton .. much better camping this time of year and the water is nicer to swim in
