Peter.

What is now called the ARB locker was originaly made by a bloke in his own workshop and it was at one stage advertised as the ausy locker, ARB bought the design and the rest is history. Eric.

Mad Dog,
American, but made in Oz.(apparently)

http://www.offroader.com.au/overlander/aussielocker.gif

An email from the company. (Not to me)

Thank you for your e-mail message. We are an American company, but we use an
Australian manufacturing group to build our products. Also, some of the
engineers who work on our product are Australian. We also test our products
in Australia as well as in the USA.

As part of our marketing strategy we only distribute our products in the
Americas. This is from the Northern edge of Canada to the end of Argentina. I
apologize that we do not sell products in your marketplace.

We have worked with an great company in Adelaide and find that they are the
most knowledgeable locker company we have met. It is 4WD Systems and I
apologize but I do not have their phone number. They do have a web site
however.

Best regards,
Bill

Thanks for the info Kev. He doesn't really say the locker is made in Oz does he! Maybe maybe not.

Here's another email, also not to me

Thank you for your interest in the Aussie Locker. At this time the
Aussie
Locker is only available in the USA and Canada. We are having
difficulties
in our manufacturing operations keeping up with the demand from these
markets and have not yet appointed distributors outside of the USA and
Canada.

We appreciate your interest and look forward to having Australian
dealers in
the near future.

Yep. Same here. I fitted to the front diff of my 3ltr GU. Purchased from gear to goannawhere (4wdsystems Sth Aus). They sell it as a "LOKKA". Worked great, missed being able to turn it on and off though. Now I have an ARB in the front diff new Cabchassis :)

It is made in AUSTRALIA and it is an improvement on the Lockrite locker which was designed by the same team who sold the Lockrite and started up Aussie Locker.I think purchasing one off the Australian manufacturer would send the lawyers into hypodrive. The hold ups in production are actually due to a defective spring or clip which has been solved. Those that have had theirs delivered o/seas preordered months ago.

folks are way to quick to knock auto lockers, Air lockers may be the ducks guts, but locked is locked!!

although when comparing the operation of any locker to a welded diff, you'd have to hope that it was smoother and more predictable wouldn't you.

Concerned that they proudly use "Aussie" in their promo, yet they aren't available here, raises questions doesn't it??

Yes "locked is locked" but does it always lock when you want it to ?
Plus what about the 90% of on-road use most people use there rigs for.

Defenatly beter than a welded diff. im sceptical they had a welded diff for so long without breaking anyway, a mini spool would of been beter. (obviously welded diff is cheaper)

"most" people don't get their trucks dirty.
"most" people have road tyres.
"most" people don't need lockers.

Mine works just nicely , if you get torque from the tail shaft , it locks hard , if you get torque from a wheel ( eg. on Turns ) , it cams open ,
only down side , is the clicking sound you get on cornering . You can only hear it on sharp turns , Its not very loud and you soon forget its there Craigs hut 2003

The people that are doing them are reputable but as I stated in my 1st post the ones being delivered o/seas were preordered and prepaid 12 months ago.I received an email from them promising them in the future when a distibutor is appointed and production is geared up.It is true they are using our good name as the worlds best suppliers of offroading equipment.Theyll cost about $600 +for F and R and DIY. I still think a locker that locks when you choose has got to be bettereven though it costs 3x as much

Forget the DIY part , I am a mechanic by trade and stuggled . Its not hard , but you need shims to space out your locker so its central and has a 5 mm spacing , you need to make sure the clutches ar lighned up , and fitting the crown wheel in whithought undoing the adjusters , Please . If you take it to a diff place , they are garanteed to stuff it up , since they dont look at the instructions , My last resort , was to sit with the diff guy and tell him hey i wanted it spaced , using his shims ect , and once I assembled the locker , he set the prelode for me .Craigs hut 2003
