We just spent 9 days on this pristine island, rented a house at Cowan Cowan for the first time ever (normally I camp) but it was great. Luxury and hospatality laid on. I saw it in the "road ahead", under Moreton Is houses to rent. The Snip family are good people. John gave us a real Aussie welcome. But I feel for the locals, numbers are down due to high costs of the barge, no fuel, and an econonomic downturn. But at a pinch if you are an animal lover ask if you can take your doggy? private residences are an exception over there. I used to camp there 30yrs ago with my dog and resent the National Parks blanket rule of no dogs. One of the simple pleasures of my life is camping on a beach with my best mate.
We took our Prado and our dingy over there on the My Cat (expensive) but kind of worth it for the snorkeling on the tanga wrecks, fishing on cowan reef, and also took a drive over to Cape Moreton and a walk up the lighthouse which was stunning. (there is now also a passenger boat going over from Scarborough, Reality cruises $50 return)
Be careful of the Blue Lake road we got bogged in VERY soft sand.
Have fun.
Regards
Ros

great, no-one's replied, so no one is planning to go there, excellent. You need to delete this post in case someone else takes an interest. Will look up the RACQ mag again for the house.
