Heya Folks
Decided to upgrade my Frontera to a New vehicle. Looking at whats on offer, I'm considering a Triton with the new high power turbo diesel, and 5 speed auto GLX-R package. Only thing is, theres not a lot of good info out there on them, and I don't see the point on taking onm the opinion of someone from a car magazine who
test drives them for a few hours or days, but has no real inkling of what they're really like to own.
They seem to have a lot better specs than anything equivalent, given they have side curtain airbags, stability and traction control, and many other extras, and nothing else seems to come close for the price. Add that to a huge warranty period, and it's a very attractive package overall.
Hilux is just too expensive. Navara hasn't the options (not to mention I'm not impressed with the build quality and
suspension, having worked on my old man's), and having had a Holden previously, I'm not going down that path again.
So, can anyone give some opinions and detail their experiences with the newer Tritons, good and/or bad? Also, any suggestions who are decent dealers in SE Qld?
Have a week to buy before end of year, so no rush or anything ;)
Cheers,
Scotty

I took one for a
test drive last week. Man they hoooot. That 5 speed auto works real nicely. They have come so far with autos that I reckon you will have a hard time finding a new 4x4 in manual in ten years time.
Heaps of the fancy standard features are extras on other dual cabs.
ABS, traction control, stabilisation control, privacy tint on the rear windows, proper tint on the front windows, 15000klm service interval & 5 years roadside assist. The list goes on.
That Mitsubishi warranty is going to have to force the other manufacturers to rethink theirs also. If you are planning on owning it for 5 years you will be selling it with another 5 years drive train warranty. That warranty starts at the water pump & ends at the wheels & includes all the head. Not the injectors though. They only get 5 years & 100,000Klm.
The 5 years & 100,000klm is more practical as
well. The average Australian car only does 15,000 a year. Mitsubishi gives a more user friendly warranty there.
They are going to give the other manufacturers a run for their money with that car.

Nods! However, the 10 year drivetrain warranty isn't apparently transferrable...covers the first owner only. Plan on keeping this for a while though, so works for me.

Fatso,
straying slightly from the topic, I'm glad somebody is aware of "average" annual mileages in Oz. I'm getting a bit grumpy with some of these dealers, as I browse online for another vehicle, who show a 5 year
old car on carsales.com with 112,000 ks and call it low mileage. Happens repeatedly.
That's all
:-))

I bought a new GLX/R TD in January.
Since then it's towed my Expanda from
Hobart to
Port Douglas and back.
Faultess performance. Heaps of torque (new version has even more).
If you're planning to have people in the back
seat it certainly gets the nod from my two teens who came along for the drive. They also came along when we
test drove all the contenders in this vehicle type to rate the back seats for me.Nothing worse on a long drive than kids complaining that they're uncomfortable.
Have heard on other forums of some disliking the front seats. Don't have a problem myself. Certainly not uncomfortable at the end of a few long days drive when we were away
Mine's a manual did 14.5 l/100kms with the caravan on the back during our trip.Towed at an average of 90-95km/hr
After 12 months of ownership I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

G'day
On the face of it, Mitsi's warranty looks fantastic. I'm here to tell you, from bitter experience, that getting Mitsubishi to honour that warranty is a whole different thing. I won't go into it here, although anyone who wants to here more can PM me if they would like, but I can promise you that if they can even sniff a hint of an excuse to get out of fixing things they will try to.
Now, I know that a couple of hundred Mitsi fanboys are going to come back at this an say that they didn't have issues with warranty but I'm talking about two vehicles that were "mission critical" to a particular contract that were routinely in for repairs and
Heaven and Hell had to be moved to get Mitsi to admit that it was their problem. Two out of two ain't bad.
1) The vehicles are OK, but don't expect them to do anything REALLY tough.
2) Be prepared for much anguish and frustration if you do happen to break the vehicle.
3) Be VERY firm with the dealer if you do go in for warranty work.
On the other hand, you could simply brand me a "whinger" and buy the car anyway. But you hav been warned.
Cheers
Russ
