Hi Guys, wondering if anyone has traveled from Kalgoorlie to Cocklebiddy via Trans Access Rd-
Rawlinna Warburton Rd-Cocklebiddy
Rawlinna Rd and if so what the condition of the road is. Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers, Tony.

We did it back in July, the trans road is 2wd smooth as, good travelling. We travelled across to Haigh which is as far east as allowed and then went south from Haigh to Cocklebiddy, very rough and slow going over
limestone outcrops and mudholes averaged 20 -30 kph.
The track from
Rawlinna down is apparently worse and hard to navigate down the bottom.
Have heard since that the locals at
Rawlinna use a "fence line" track which goes straight down and is apparently not too bad. Best ask at
Rawlinna unless anyone else replies.

Thanks Peter, good info. I actually thought
Rawlinna was as far East that was allowable to travel thats why i posted it however if i can get as far as Haigh i would be happy. Bit of a worry for me though if you found it rough and slow in that great vehicle of yours, The DMAX may meet its match. I wonder if the fence line you mentioned is the
Vermin Proof Fence that runs South from a point 26Klms East of
Rawlinna? Cheers.

Gday Pete,
All the best for the season to you and Sandra!
We've travelled the Cocklebiddy to
Rawlinna Rd a couple of times, and its not too bad. Main issue is navigation at the
Rawlinna end, but with Oziexplorer, we've always found our way without hassle. Its a little rough in
places which limits speed to about 40kph, but turns into a major dirt highway on the final stretch from Arubiddy Stn to Coclebiddy.
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil, All the best to you and Kathryn too.
I was hoping you would chime in as I remembered you had gone that way.
As I mentioned above we bumped into a fella from over that way in vic that travelled the "fence track" and he reckoned it was top gear all the way. Could be it is the one further west on the vermin fence.

Hey Tony,
as per Pete and Sandy in the Humvee, we went east from
Rawlinna on a good quality Trans Access Road to
Haig and then south down to Cocklebiddy. As Pete has outlined, there is a fair bit of
limestone about (nothing as bad as the last of the Connie Sue heading into
Rawlinna). A bit over 3.5 hours from
Haig down to the Highway. There's always a blog for it so here's a link;
Rawlinna to Haig & south to Cocklebiddy - July 09.
Cheers Mick

Thanks everyone for the info, will definitely be heading South from Haigh. I imagine its going to be pretty warm as i am doing it this January, plenty of
water being the rule of the day. Thanks again everyone, Tony.

G'day Tony, have just travelled the
Haig-Eyre Hwy track (about a week ago) and concur that it is a slow track, rough in many parts through the rocky saltbush country. I enjoyed it very much but allow approx 4 hours to get down to the highway. Took me 3hr 40mins from
Haig. Great part of the world though!
Rohan.

Thank you to all those that responded.
Well, i'm back and i did it. Kalggorlie to
Haig along the trans access road then
Haig to Cocklebiddy along the
Haig road. All your descriptions were spot on. This was my first real trip through a desert and i had a fantastic time. The TA road was good all the way, some corrugation and a few small washout dips that were dry but had to be respected. Averaged about 80kph all the way.
Haig to Cocklebiddy was quite different, averaged 20-30kph all the way, took me 4 hours and was pretty slowgoing. All along were
granite outcrops, nothing hard to negotiate just bumpy and rough thus the slow speed. i will put more of this in a blog soon complete with some pics but all in all, a fantastic experience, cant wait to do more. Thanks again.
