Hi all
I've been looking at some 4WD mounted awnings and have come across Open Sky and ARB Awnings, where the pictures and stats seem remarkably alike. Are these the same product? Anyone have direct experience with either or other car mounted awnings?
Thanks
Mike

Mike, you'll find they are all similar and sourced from overseas. There are also several other companies around selling an identicle product. I looked at them all at the two most recent shows in Melbourne and the ARB, Open Sky, Ironman and several others were all the same.

They are priced well but the fabric used is very different to a quality awning like the Gunya, but then you are paying half the price. I have an old model ARB Pilbara tent and the quality and construction materials are far superior to those you purchase from ARB today.

As a provider of shade though, they do a more than adequate job. When conditions turn inclement, I'm not so sure. Have a look at the Foxwing from Oztent. That impressed me.

Cheers Mick.

Hi Mick

We can't buy Gunya products any more. There was a marraige break up and production ceased . I it ever comes back I will be sure to let the forum know.

Bloody shame as it was our best selling awning Top quality.

Hi Mike
Buy 100% Australian to keep Australians in a job. There are a number of 100% Australian Made Awnings on the market. Mine is a Black Widow, 100% made for them in Queensland. Also the cheaper unit do not use canvas. Quite often, the old saying is quite true, you only get what you pay for. You will find that the ARB is made in China, and I may be wrong, but think that the Open Sky is also made in China as well.

Cheers

Stephen

They don't need to be canvas, acrylic is fine for an awning, lasts well for boat covers etc.

That is right, they are made in Qld by Gunyah under license, and are a good product..

I bought my awning from Polaris Innovations here in Brisbane. Excellent awning and so easy to set up with just one person. It keeps the girlfriend happy so i'm happy!
I agree you should buy one that is made here in Australia. There is quite a few brands and if you hit google up you might find some close to your home. You might pay a little more but the workmanship is probably a little better and your money stays here. The manager at Polaris took me out the back when they were making mine and ran me throught the whole process. I had no problems handing him my money. I'm not affiliated with them at all, just a happy customer!

Cheers,
Dan

Another vote for Polaris. Good quality product and flexible with sizes to suit your needs.
