"Three skylarking men have risked life and limb by climbing into a Northern Territory crocodile trap as a prank and posting the photographs on Facebook.
The photo, believed to have been taken at
Manton Dam south of
Darwin, shows one man standing on the large metal cage and two others inside the trap itself pulling faces, the NT News reports.
The large baited traps are designed to catch crocodiles up to 4m in length.
The stunt was "absolute stupidity", according to Territory Parks and Wildlife rangers, who are looking to identify the three men.
"It won't be tolerated any more," senior
ranger Peter Phillips said.
Standing on crocodile traps has become an increasingly common activity for Northern Territory thrillseekers, with several others being caught after posting pictures on the social networking site.
If caught, the three men could face charges of up to $55,000."

Pretty dumb thing to do although highly unlikely there will be an issue in
Manton Dam.
That is the local ski dam for people in
Darwin. They don't open it after the wet until they are sure there are no salties in there.
These people are being smart alecs but choosing a relatively save place to do it. Of course some other person not so smart will try this stunt were there will be a saltie.

Candidates for a "
Darwin Award", pun intended.
The positive side of it is, that while they are doing that, they are not driving on public roads and do not jeopardise others.

It could have been a bigger
Darwin award candidate shot.
Imagine the whole lot of them in the trap tooling around at low tide in a river, they set it off and the door closes.
These traps aren't designed to be opened from the inside, in fact they should be downright impossible to open internally!
Yep, I know there is always breathing space for a pair of croc nostrils.
Imagine the bun fight with a couple of fools thinking they are about to drown!

Haha, top blokes and isn’t it really funny, great for a Christmas postcard…Wait, its all fine until something goes wrong and then what,
well we’ll just blame the croc of course! Now that’s settled, let’s start the croc cull!
In all seriousness though whenever I go swimming up here, me or my dogs I am cautious and watching carefully, even at
places like
Manton Dam. Crocs have a habit of moving around, one waterholes safe one day and dangerous the next. To stuff around with croc traps is just plain stupid. Not to long ago at Berry Springs (not far from Manton) a 4.7m croc was trapped. Many people thought this area was croc free.
The good ol’ NT news seems to encourage this, and has made this trap at Manton a famous postcard special celebrity spot. I would believe many people would shake their heads in disbelief, but others might think they will join in on the fun. A few to many beers somewhere down the Merry River, spot a croc trap and their in for a dip and up for a photo snap, a very literal snap at that!
Of course there are genuine croc attacks that are just really sad tragic accidents, these are sad enough so I don’t want to read that some silly person was taken for swimming in a croc trap. There’s the problem of to many crocs, but there’s also the problem of to many that are unaware or just acting plain stupid.

"pulling faces from inside the trap itself" could you imagine the faces they would be pulling if a 4 mtr saltie decided to join them in the trap.
Yep definitely candidates for a
Darwin award

"Preferably posthumously"
Ha Ha Ha, mate that's the ONLY way you can win the
Darwin Award, buy taking yourself out of the gene pool before passing the regressive Gene on to any offspring. Regressive Gene's gone forever,
Darwin's natural selection at it's finest.
Cheers Colin.

Darwin Awards
Have a look Graham, it would be fun reading, if it wasn't factual. The stories are thoroughly researched for authenticity.
Cheers Colin.
