Ayres Rock

We are planning a trip to Ayres Rock from Brisbane via The Plenty and back on the French Line around Easter. Our travelling partners have had to pull out.

Wondering if there are any members planning a similar trip at the same time.

Michael & Chris

You will have a ball, but better check out the temperatures out there.
Still a tad hot easter time.

Cheers

Thanks Bucky, Yeah I am aware it might get a bit warm during the day, but the boss can't get time off any later. We will plan our activitys accordingly as I have 2 boys 8 & 10 (both ferrel). Maybe she can quit her job so she can work in with my plans. Also wanted to ask you about the k&n filter. I had one on my gu (which sounds like yours) but it did not fit properly and didn't seal

Michael, I am not sure if the Simpson Desert will have reopened by Easter. I am sure another Member will be able to advise on this.

I strongly recommend you do not attempt the trip solo with your children at that time of the year. Temperatures, can be high, and so early in the season the dunes might be very difficult to manage. Traffic would be minimal so if you have a serious problem you can't count on someone arriving soon to assist you. You have a very good vehicle and I would hope you have a HF of a Sat Phone in case help is needed however, it can take some time for help to reach you.

Dick

Thanks Dick. The heat out there should not be much of a problem but the lack of fellow travelers is. I am talking to the better half about her job( can't let work interfear with play). And yes we will have a sat phone. Cheers

Hi Chris,

You wil lnot doubt stopover at Boulia before making the Donohue Hy section fresh. The caravan park there is great. (just over the bridge west of the pub).

Stop at the tourist info office just before you start as they will have the latest road conditions. The cafe next door is also great.

Fuel is not available at Tobermorey anymore but at Jervois is OK. Harts range is a bit of a dump but the Gemtree caravan park is great.
