I have a knocking noise in the dash on my SR5 Hilux 3 Litre Turbo Diesel 2006.
It knocks consistently every 4 seconds (approx) and sounds like its in the dash on the passenger side. It happens while driving and also while stationary (out of gear).
I have put my head under the dash, under the vehicle and in the motor. Its only noticeable from inside the vehicle. The noise goes away for a while and then returns. Any ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

" You keepa knocking but ya cain't come in...Waaaaa " !! Little Richard 1960's

I have a metal electrical piece (was working fixing/breaking things positioned on dash) that rolled down the dash and into the airvent and further down into the airvent passage where it happily rolls around and keeps on making similar noises as you describe. Now I can pull the whole dash out....or just ignore it....I do the latter :-)

Cheers

Do you have a power aerial??
Possibly the aerial is bent and aerial motor is jamming.
Try running car without radio on, see if this stops noise.
Then straighten aerial or wipe it down with kero to clean.

Had a similar problem with a 4.2 Nissan a few years back. Turned out to be the Battery box on the left hand mudguard. Broke the weld and was moving. Would have bet the noise was coming from inside Vehicle.

Hi,
have a similar clunk under the dash of a Toyota Dyna. Mine is the windscreen wiper arm from the wiper motor crank.
Difficult to get to, intermittent, and very annoying.
cheers

It sounds like something rotating, similar to the windscreen wiper.
Did yours do it when the wiper were off, or at any time?

If you have an aux battery I would check the aux battery cradle, they have a problem if not secured properly of cracking the inner wheel guard.

Have a look under the guard for any cracks around the bolts holding the cradle in.

I have a strange sort of flapping/whirring noise in the area of the driver side dash at the moment - took in to mechanic (that I trust) today - he reckons it is the speedo cable is dry - we have been through a lot of dust, dirt recently - quite feasible, anyway going in Monday next to check it our and hopefully fixed - Nev did say he had a Patrol with strange knocking noise, changed wheel bearings, greased everything in site etc, noise still there - did speedo cable, noise gone!!
driving solo to Melbourne from Kalbar Qld in about a week, so need to get fixed befoe then.
