Planning to drive the Buchanan Hwy from the Stuart Hwy to the Victoria Hwy in June 2010. Has anyone been that way recently? The only comments I can find are about 2 years old and I'll be towing a Camper Trailer (Ultimate) so if anyone has travelled this route witha trailer I'd be glad to hear of your experience. Cheers, Ian W

Katherine isn't far from VRD. Easy drive.
It is a matter of perception.

Believe it or not I haven't had a drink tonight and won't.
My point is that distance is a matter of perception. To someone in a city to drive from
Katherine to VRD would be considered a long way. To people that live up here it is not a long way.

Frankly..I was making a flippant comment last post.
In the beginninmg I pointed out the incorrect marking of
Katherine in the place of VRD on a map as linked by Freds post.
How can that be a matter of perception? I know where everything is up north. I lived there for a long time and drove most of the roads and tracks. For someone coming up from the south and not having been there before a place marked in the wrong location can't be a matter of perception! Its just wrong. Why you even cared to make such a comment is beyond me.

Hi Willem,
mmmmm! something wrong there... When you zoom out, everything is OK. Must have something to do with the way the "text boxes" are constructed on the web page. I'll send them an email.... they have been pretty good in the past. When I have pointed out errors to them, they have fixed them fairly quickly.

Ian,
The road from Dunmarra (Hwy) to Top Springshas on the last two occasions I've travelled been very good, from there through
Jasper Gorge to
Timber Creek a little more stoney but quite OK as
well. Drive to the conditions and keep speed down and the trailer will go almost any where. The scenery through the
Jasper Gorge area is
well worth the trip. There is also a good
free camping area on Jasper creek and it is even signposted. Enjoy.
Mike.

I occasionally drive from
Katherine to Yarralin. I always go through
Jasper Gorge as it is a more interesting trip with the scenery.
The other route through Top Springs is boring.

Thanks everyone for the replies....I checked the NT Road report but what i really wanted to know is this a reasonable route rather than heading up the Stuart to
Katherine and then turning on to the Victoria Hwy from there. I'm heading towards
Kununurra and the Buchanan seemed to miss the main roads and could be agood alternative.
Cheers & Safe travelling

Ian,
I have towed on this route and had no issues, but it is subject to flooding. Was closed June/July 2 years ago.
