i have been taold by many experts that the above genny will only run lights & NOT a toaster, kettle, or a small KW micro wave{not all at the same time}. some salesmen say "yes it will" others {inc a Honda Sales person say "no it wont" any info would be
well recieved.
Many thanks

For the difference you would be far better off buying a 20i and it will run all
those except maybe the microwave as they have a very high startup draw.

If the 1 horsepower is the power of the motor that runs the geny it certainly wont.
if the one horsepower is the output of the geny, about 750 watts, then it may, just may run a toaster, but I doubt it.
It wont run any electric jug that I know of.
I'd take the word of the Honda person was I you.

Allo Redback
This is my experience with a Honda generator
In a recent exploration
camp (in a
creek bed - loved it!) I used a Honda 20i. I think survey was done around early October in the West
Pilbara.
It was running three 40l Engels during the day (can't remember temp setting), and put on 'ECO' switch. When the fridge compressor kicked in the generator just increased its revs.
In the morning fridges would be turned on (gen set off during night). Also a toaster and a kettle used as
well.
For a week long
camp this generator performed
well above my expectations!
Hope this helps!
Matthew

We have used the 20i to run 4 campsites, including fridges and fans. The 1hp is just a fraction too small to do what you want. The 20i is much better value for money and runs
well, and very quietly.

Before you buy either check the continuous as
well as the maximum wattage ratings of the two units and add up whatever appliances you will run for short amounts of time and what you would like to run for hours at a time.
From memory the 10i is 1000 watts intermittent and 800 watts continuous and the 20i is 2000 watts intermittent and 1600 watts continuous. Have a look at the appliances you take with you and add up their current draw, most electrical goods have this info somewhere on them.
My son has a 10i and is quite adequate for his camper trailer while
mine is the 20i. I bought this so that I could run the air con and microwave in my caravan (not together) otherwise the 10i would have been quite big enough for me as
well.
Hope this helps
Cheers Pop

If you have not already made up your mind to purchase the honda , have a look at the equivalant Yamaha ES1000 Is , generally round $300 cheaper than the Honda and puts out more power [ 900 compared to 800 and 750 compared to 600] ,also runs longer on same amount of fuel ,,ours will run our microwave [1200watt] when we change the microwave power setting from high to medium and/or below fullpower.

I don't think Honda make a 1 horsepower generator. Do you mean the 1000Watt EU10i?
That's 1kWatt not 1 horsepower. They are not the same thing. Maybe that's where you are getting confused between salesmen.(I think the EU10i petrol engine is rated at about 1.8 horsepower.)
The EU10i is rated at 1000Watt max and 900Watt continuous so it will run appliances up to about 900Watt total. (allowance needs to be made for possible higher start power requirements for some appliances).
This could include a small toaster or kettle (my kitchen toaster uses 1200W, kitchen kettle uses 2200watt so these would be no good).
I saw a guy plug his toaster into a Honda EU10i at a bike meet a couple of weeks ago. It toasted his bread but the little generator was going flat out to do it.
As mentioned above, all appliances have the power rating on them somewhere. Check this and then compare to wattage rating of generator, not horsepower.

The Honda EU10i does not have a fuel tap and leak fuel into the air filter and stink out the vehicle or trailer you have it stored in. Yamaha EF1000iS is a far superior unit. Yamaha have out a new EF2000iS unit which has none of the problems of the Honda EU20i. Honda also tell you in the manual they will not work after 40C and they usually dont.
