Happy New Year everyone.... I am searching for a Radio that is capable of receiving AM signal in the more remote areas ie
Simpson Desert etc etc It would be a portable type unit, I understand that Seagean have an 'outback' radio but has no external antenna is this any good? are there others I'm not aware off?? Does the radio really need an external antenna??
Regards...........Jeff

Hi Jeff, Happy New Year to you also.
I have a Degen DE1103 receiver which has FM stereo, AM,LW,& Shortwave coverage and I have used it to receive AM in the
Simpson Desert and other remote regions.
Of course the reception quality is relative to the broadcast power and location of the transmitting station but it accepts an external antenna in the form of a length of hook-up wire and that does improve things considerably.
The DE1103 is compact,
well constructed and with good features.
Have a look at it here:

I also have HF receiver/transmitter in the vehicle which can receive several shortwave ABC and Radio Australia stations but often not with the programme I like. Besides, it is nice to just have the radio on the
camp table playing softly rather than in the vehicle annoying all in earshot.
