I was out and about - and stumbled upon this plant in the National park - thought it was a weed -- friends suggested it may be a Herb... can anyone positively identify this ?

Have you considered asking someone at National Parks. Surely they would be the most appropriate source.

Richard thats not an uncommon issue on this site :-)

Poor old DIO, the guy appears to be a possible retired copper that calls it as he see's it and gets dumped on time and again.

I'm not a botanist, but it looks very much like the common herb sage.

Another vote for sage...... with the proviso that it could be a deadly poisonous plant that looks a lot like sage :-o)

Hi DIO, which NP is it?
Looks like sage to me but up north we get a lot of kapok, when young it looks a bit like that before it starts to flower.....

One guaranteed way to find out would be to dry a few leaves then try smoking them inside your local police station, can see the headlines " Man arrested for smoking Sage in non smoking building". LOL.
