Can anyone tell me when Toyota started putting the D4 engine in the Hilux? Looking at a 2007 model and been told the D4's are awesome....cheers

Just to be pedantic, it's D4-D.
Direct Injection
4 valves per cylinder
Diesel
I have a D4-D engine in my Landcruiser also and it is awesome.

If you are looking for a second hand one, make sure that the injectors have already been replaced as they have faulty injectors to this day.

Thanks Tour Boy, great advise. This vehicle we are looking at only have 16,000 on the clock - do you think I would still need to
check that the injectors have been replaced? Also, do you know how often they need to be changed and the cost? Cheers

You'll soon know as they are very noisy when cold.
List price is $875 ea + labour.
200,000km is the suggested replacement interval by toyota. (never seen any get that far yet)
There is a
Hilux forum
that may help you.
Cheers

Bailey July 05 they started rolling out even a little earlier I have done 170 thousand klms and not had an injector problem yet you do need to keep an eye on fuel filters and toyota is finding out that they block up a lot earlier than book says and if towing with it be aware that the rear break setup is also not the best why they havn't changed to disc I don't know and the hand brake cable still has a tendancy to jam up with bleep .
